This is Day 1 entry into the ActiveRain challenge hosted by Debbie Reynolds. We've been asked to share the joys, what blesses us the most, and why it is a blessing.
Day 1 starts with the biggest joy and blessing in my life. That is the gift of my son. Ironically, today, November 10th is the day I married my son’s father 40 years ago! While the marriage was short-lived, it lived long enough for my husband and me to be blessed with our beautiful son.
The day our son was born I truly fell in love for the very first time. The love I felt for my son was a love unknown to me until I held him in my arms and smelled his little baby breath.
I cannot imagine my life without my son. I pray that I never have to. Anyone who has children and/or raised children knows the joys children bring to our lives and to the world.
Life is not easy yet the challenges we face are here to teach us.
Raising my son taught me so much about myself. I learned how to love unconditionally.
I also learned how to be a fighter, protector, and warrior. I taught him to do the same.
Today, even though his father and I are not married, it does not change the fact that we have a child. While being divorced was not the perfect situation for raising a child, we did our very best.
38 years later our son remains a true gift to me. He brings joy to my life. He is truly a blessing. I am forever thankful for him.
As adults, we have become friends. He calls me for advice. I call him for advice. I am often amazed at his wisdom. I am so proud of the man my son has become.
Thank you, Debbie Reynolds for hosting the Thanksgiving Challenge.
