You Just Never Know Who is Calling

When my phone rings at 7:00 pm at night, I vacillate between answering it or letting it go to voicemail.  After all, who would be calling at that time of night?  A call from Google maybe.

 

So tonight's call was a unique call.  The caller had already bought a home . He just moved here from Maryland.  So why was he calling?  

 

He searched on the internet looking for someone to help him make his home more energy efficient.  Apparently I'm the gatekeeper of that information, ,Green Vendor Site with over 100 contacts in energy efficiency!

 

If you search for a "green realtor" even though that's a trademark violation for the National Association of REALTORS®, the public doesn't know that.  So I arrive front and center thanks to my online marketing and thanks to ActiveRain!

 

I was happy to talk to this new Scottsdale homeowner for over an hour about what he can do to make his home more energy efficient.  He's going to call the neighborhood HOA board member so we can meet and I can potentially present my information to the entire neighborhood.

 

Moral of the story - answer your phone because you just never know who is calling!

those kinds of calls can certainly lead to business down the road although it might not be today.  I generally answer my phone unless they have already been added to the "crap do not answer" contact in my phone.

I get it, Jan... on the other hand, at some point it's also important to be able to "turn off" the day and the phone. And I've found that if I continue to break my own rules about when to stop each day, there's never an end to it.

Yes they can Tammy Lankford,  The guy sounds credible and genuinely said he'd contact his HOA person.  I also have a client who lives in that neighborhood so it would be good to do a presentation on energy efficiency.

I can understand Nina Hollander . I generally answer the phone until about 8:30, after that it goes to voicemail. I figure anyone in their right mind knows this is a business and should act accordingly.

Hi Jan... since I start at 6am, I'm usually pretty much done by 6:30pm with a few exceptions or unless I'm negotiating on a property.

So many of the calls I receive are robo-calls.  I usually answer the phone until about 9:00 pm.  However, I once had a great client who was a real night owl.  He'd think nothing of ringing me up at 11:00 pm.  Somehow, I got use to it.

Wow!  11:00 Myrl Jeffcoat  - you are dedicated!  I know how you think though.  Sometimes it's a case by case basis.  AND I've spoken with this man again and I have an appointment at his newly purchased home on Friday with someone from their HOA.  I'll be giving a presentation to their neighborhood about energy efficiency!  That 7 pm phone call is paying off.  I already have an existing client living in that neighborhood!

I like that phrase Lise Howe !  I think a lot of us believe in karma and staying positive to receive that same result.  It works out well that way in the end!  Reminds me of a time when I happened to be in the office.  A couple stopped in and I said, "Sure I'll help you buy an investment property."  That property was $109,000, financed.  2 years later they sold the house that 4 generations have lived in, Brooklyn, and I've now sold them 5 properties!  I never turn down anyone - you just never know!
