When Is It Too Much Information?

Pondering When Is It Too Much Information

It makes you wonder.  What's Up?  There are multiple reasons.  Many of them valid. But perhaps more information is needed.  And that question leads to others such as:  How much?

When  Is It Too Much Information?  And when does it all become too bothersome?

Is it simply just too much?  Too Much Information.  Overload. Maybe.  Of course.  It depends on the situation.  And lots of other factors. Different situations.  Different "standards".  Does being succinct matter?  Being to the point? Pondering won't resolve issues of information, per se.   Nor will it answer questions of a legal nature.  Or common sense.  Logic matters too.  So when does too much information become simply too much.  I guess we know it when we experience it.  Maybe.

TMI in many cases can even kill. A deal. You can drive people away with to much talk

Knowing when to speak and when not to speak is a useful skill  William Feela.  In real estate and in real life too.

TMI is when our recent buyer told us that the woman he was looking for a condo was not his wife, and when he's out looking for a house with his wife the following week, not to mention the "other woman...

HI Michael- as my wise friend always says...it depends. When do I feel I'm giving out TMI...when the person's eyes begin to glaze over. When I'm given TMI...when my own eyes begin to glaze over.

Kathy Streib - eye glazing is a look but definitely not a good sign.

Michael,

Kathy Streib correctly identified TMI by an automatic response of eyes going into glaze mode.  I start fidgetting, as does Ron.  And we make polite noises to escape ASAP.  We ocasionally catch ourselves  gong over that precipice when explaining a concept.  We keep practicing the idea of brevity, first inspired by Truman Capote's explanation of it in the preface of his short story book called Music for Chameleons.  OH OH,  T am almost at Stage 1 TMI.  LOL A

Alexandra  Ron and Alexandra Seigel  -  eye-glazing, fidgeting and general distraction  are certainly factors to be aware.  I will look for more information but not TOO much in the Capote book--thank you.

This  is soooo appropriate today...Someone is asking imformatioin that does not exist and makes no difference in the price of the home..it IS too much imformation but it stalls and shows "power" and therein is his point.

Michael, I think some people know when they're giving TMI and others just keep right on going. Body language if face to face typically gives it away. If I'm on the phone and am getting TMI the short responses and I need to get going are my signs. Some get it and some don't.

TMI is a real thing.  Some of the things that I have been told were very eye opening and some where just plan head shakers.  Regardless sometimes too much is just too much.

I think that we know it when we experience it, if we aren't able to make a decision about something, we usually will want more information to help with that decision.

There is a real need for more information but the delivery of it plays a role too Brian England.   It's important that is told and then understood.

TMI can be the result of somebody over-talking, over-selling, over...and over. Or, it can be sharing things that are not appropriate for the setting - or the relationship. Reading body language generally reveals both when it's happening. We have two ears and one mouth - most folks will ask if they want more information or details.
