The Feast of St Patrick’s Day at the Crane Home
I am sitting here late on Sunday night smelling the aroma of Corn Beef and Cabbage along with Shepherd’s Pie in the oven at the other end of the house.
It is an amazing smell that I have grown accustomed to every year for the past 30 years. It is a time that the whole family and many friends always look forward to since my lovely bride always takes these things very seriously. The results are very tasty and the family and friends that it attracts are so precious.
For many in Wisconsin, it’s about green beer and an impressive amount of it is consumed around here. But for us it is about the meal and family, and it is always nice to see how the kids and friends will plan their schedules around when Sally will be providing this tasty meal.
I know that many people don’t think that they like the taste of cooked cabbage, but that is only because they have never had it done right, many have come here for this annual event and discovered how great cabbage can taste when married to the proper mix of corned beef and spices, along with a scoop of shepherd’s pie.
And then when all of our guests have had their fill, Sally exclaims, who wants pie?
We are generally too full for pie, but a small slice of chocolate and mint pie with green creamy mint topping cannot be resisted.
Let me know if you will be stopping by and we will put another plate on the table.
Happy St Patrick’s Day!
