Throwback Thursday

Sand Art in Carlsbad and Beyond

Sand Art in Carlsbad 2009

Sand Art in Carlsbad

I've happened on several temporary works of art in the sand over the years we've been in Carlsbad. Of course there are sand castles, some of which are pretty elaborate, but I have also seen several sand artists creating designs in the sand with rakes and other tools.

Some of these are pretty elaborate, and if you can see them from above on the bluff they can be pretty impressive.

Jeff, the sand art is gorgeous, until the waves come up and destroy them!

I am envious of the talent these artists have. Bet it does look impressive from above. Thank you for sharing it with us.

This one is quite unique, Jeff. I'm always envious of people who have the patience to create something like that... and the imagination.

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS - that and others are very impressive.  Great works of art that get washed away later.

Good afternoon Jeff. This is really neat and there is something very special about art that doesn't last.

Agreed, George Souto  This one took some planning, and it was done so well.

Hi Joan Cox

Yes, definitely fleeting art. It probably took almost as long to create this and it did for the waves to destroy it.

I am as well Sharon Lee .

I had another one that I could not find that I took from atop the bluff at another time. It was amazing...and I got to watch it being created!!

Hi James Dray

Well it's just a cool design, I think. Whatever it is, it was fun to see! I haven't sseen something like this at the beach for some time now.

I know what you mean Nina Hollander .

I have neither the skill nor the patience, but am pretty high on the enjoyment scale.

Hi Grant Schneider

It sort of reminds me of the chalk art - it can take hours to create and then it goes away. I saw one guy on the beach creating a design and he had all kinds of tools with him for different lines, etc.

Hi Sheila Anderson

Well I agree. You have to really enjoy the creation since it doesn't last all that long...and the timing has to be pretty good to keep ahead of the tide!

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS Are you saying you don't like to get sand in your shoes? Looking down on the beach from the cliffs above?

But, you are right. Perspective is good.

Have a happy holiday.
