Catching Up

Catching Up It seems to me, each January as one year ends and another begins, a feeling of catching up takes place.  As a regular movie-goer, the plethora of new film releases come to attention so that takes on some additional meaning for me.  This time of year traditionally marks the return of some potential prize winners that might have been missed earlier for one reason or another too.

These past few weeks had me playing some cinema catch up with a mixture of new releases as well as some that have been out in the theaters for some time. Some good and some, well, not so entertaining.

But catching up includes other more important parts of our lives too beyond the movie theater.   The signficance of those dates is also a part of my thought process.  We are/or should be aware of certain deadlines and milestones that need marking but it's those moment that go beyond the theater experience that matter most for me.   The beginning of the Chinese New Year was celebrated this past Saturday is yet another event that comes to mind.  And it's not just another date.

The Lunar New Year is not celebrated on a certain date year after year like so many other dates we may observe so that may make it a bit more special because of that.

So as we have enter the Year of the Rat, let's all continue to celebrate the importance of remembering moments along with those important dates as we continue to play catch up.

Good Morning Michael,

Playing catch up with anything that matters is good for the soul. We could get busy and less attentive due to daily pressures. And playing catch up is a nice thing to do to give ourselves a break.:)

Love playing catch up! Thanks Michael

For some of our Chinese friends the celebration was
"dampened" by the threat and spread of the vbirus in their homeland. Prayers to those everywhere who have met with this horrible plight.

Maria Gilda Racelis - catching up is often a welcome break in the hectic life that can pass by much too quickly.  Pausing for a moment to catch up is good.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson - let's hope a cure is quickly found.

For some reason, not really feeling in catch-up mode - yet. Lol. I've been enjoying the slower paced days and know it's going to ramp up soon. Therefore,  really savor having a bit more time to read, and watch good movies. Not sure if this would be your cup of tea, but we loved "Honeyland." It's documentary about a woman bee keeper - it's an interesting observation (and story) about the delicate balance of nature -and being mindful of living in harmony.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - I wanted to see it but it wasn't meant to be.  At least so far as it is not currently playing in my area at time/places which worked for me.    I know it's academy award nominated so it may make a return...  Glad to hear you liked it.

I think the last first run movie I saw(not in the theater) was the Gary Oldham as Churchilll film.  I typically prefer going out rather than staying in for movie-watching.

I think we watched it on Netflix, or Amazon prime. Not sure.

Grant Schneider - sounds like a good plan that works for you.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - I prefer to talk about the movie-going experience instead of a movie review.  People don't want my opinion when there is no shortage of thoughts from people.  Often far more knowledgeable.

Hi Michael Jacobs !  HNY!  I am happy to hear that you're busy going to the movies...I love the movies, too!  Have you seen Like a Boss?  Made me laugh..I don't normally see comedies, but was glad that I saw this one!

Who are your favorite Oscar Contenders?

The lead actress in Harriet could win the award from one scene alone, right?

Going to be a good show!

Great Post, Michael!

Hello TODD PICCONI 909.908.7376 - 3 Decades Experience - Happy 2020 to you as well.  I really liked Jo Jo Rabbit but usually my favorites are not likely Oscar winners and that's okay.

I read your post where you praised Pain and Glory.  I really liked the cave architecture they showed in the home of the Antonio Banderas character but beyond that I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped.  Oh, well.

I haven't seen Harriet yet but I do understand Cynthia Erivo is nominated for two Oscars(lead actress and original song).

Michael Jacobs, I usually save the month of January for my 'Catch-Up To Do List.'

Perhaps one reason January is not my favorite month:) Had a slip up the last of January when I absolutely forgot an important item I had forgotten to list .

Over the weekend we played catch-up of sorts with my oldest brother and his wife, Michael Jacobs ... and ironically, movie-watching was one of those topics touched upon.  My wife and I aren't much for going to the movies or watching them at home either ... mostly because of my sports obsession, admittedly.  We did get a synopsis of what's available in the theaters ... is that a start??

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi - catching up with family and friends is an activity that can bring many topics to surface(and some in depth too).  As for movies and the previews, commercials or snippets that introduce them often show the best/most enjoyable parts as well as the cleverest and most memorable moments.
