         The City of Palms Park

Night lights The lights towers shined down upon City of Palms Park.

in Fort Myers, Lee CountyFlorida, has been the home of the charismaticRed Sox since the opening of the new Ball Park in 1993 and have become a fixture in Lee County during the Spring Training.Gone are the days when the Red Sox were called bums are often as brilliant. We all remember the 2004 World Series against Saint Louis, who was a no show, but mostly the American League final against their arch enemy and fantastic power house The New York Yankees  or playfully called the Evil Empire.

But in 2004 The Curse was finally broken

3.10.07: Red Sox manager Terry Francona, left, yells as Detroit Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, second from left, holds back Tigers pitcher Todd Jones as he argues with Boston Red Sox third base coach DeMarlo Hale during a bench clearing in the fifth inning of a Grapefruit League game

4 the Curse of the Bambino

The Babe with the Red Sox in 1918

The last World Series won by the Red Sox was in 1918 as it said sadly on my cap before the miracle happened.WE all know that the Babe was bought for a then unheard $100,000 by the Yankees and the rest was history and many rings for Mr Herman Babe Ruth. But lets give credit where its due: The Yankees is the most successful team in baseball history by far.No question here.

But things started to change when they moved their training to Fort Myers and a few guys named David Ortiz

or "Papi", the home run machine:

Manny  as gifted as unpredictable slugger Martinez is, he stated that he wants to finish his career with the Red Sox. You never know with Manny.

the most feared one 2 punch, heroic and very verbal 2 time World Series winner Schilling" bloody Red Sox ", screw ball virtuoso Wakefiel, Pedro the calm, taciturn, driven and devastating future Hall of famer prima Dona who left the year after for the mets ( sic ),

"Pedro" during the 2004 World Series, his last year with the Red Sox

and Varitec "the Brain"

Action in Lakeland Varitec, the mind with Francona behind the team in Fort Myers in 2007

one of the strongest hitters and catcher in Red Sox history also part of the 2007 line up.....to name a few. Some like Damion also left after for the Yankees, so I will leave it at that.Don't get me started on Damon.

The 1993 state of the art stadium Park has  a capacity of  6,990 seats which are mostly pre-sold before spring training and it is clear why Jet Blue has a direct flight from Boston to Fort Myers. The stadium is done in pure Florida  style with a grandstand over the outfield with palm trees ergo the name City Of Palms Park, also the name of Fort Myers. The complex is indeed upscale with a 9,000 square feet clubhouse for visitors and complete media activities. This is the place to be in the Spring in Fort Myers.http://www.mlb.com/   It used to be baseball, the national anthem, pretzels, beers, nuts, hot dogs and the strong smell of bratwursts. But now we have also Sushi.I red somewhere that japan is offended with California using the term Sushi as they consider real original Sushi not even close to our imitation American Sushi.Well tough. It is done in honor of our new pitcher from Japan Mr.  Hideki Okajima.

Okaji debuts in Fort Myers in March 2007

Surely eating sushi at the ball park does not sound right, but I'll keep an open mind.   It is going to be an exciting season. But who is going to be the closer? It seems we haven't had a decent closer since er..Lee Smith. As much as I respect Timlin, his best days are behind him and being amiddle reliever is all I hope for him.Prove me wrong and I will be delighted. Lets first enjoy the training season and see how our new guys like shortstop Julio Lugo and Okajima rubber arm Julian Tvarezdo and Coco Crisp. There is magic in the air in Fort Myers.

George has the habbit of flipping.I think I would to if I spend over $250 millions and got spanked the last couple of years.Never count them out though. Maybe A-Rod is not worth the money. Dereck yes for sure! Between Dena, I can eat that stuff raw.To each his own.I'll have mine broiled.I didn't see the other blog about Sushi. That is funny.
