Passages. . .
A while back I was reading an article and it made mention of author Gail Sheehy. It had been years since I heard any
reference to her and immediately thought of her best-selling 1976 book, Passages.
Coincidentally, I was thinking of passages of one particular kind. About a year ago, my nephew announced he was "leaving" Facebook.
I have never been that active there and certainly understand the disillusionment that can set in with the site. However, I see a major advantage with it in one aspect. And that it serves as a reminder of birthdays(of course, for those who include such information as part of their public profile).
I wish I could remember each and every birthday but have long ago given up that dream. Anyway, knowing those dates are "there" offers a bit of comfort when such things are easily forgotten.
I do recall my nephew's birthday month as November but was unsure of the exact date. I asked my younger brother(his father). Of course, even today, I think of my brother as a teenager at times even as he is well into his early middles if we are going to reveal such things.
It turns out I was right about the date. And as far as time goes and the passage of it, I have my moments of clarity. Haha.
While social media has its shortcomings as well as its advantages, it's nice to know there are still options available to highlight the passages we encounter each day.
