If you haven't prepared for the current hurricane season, please do so now. The tropics are heating up.
If they predict a Cat 1, prepare for a Cat 3. I have followed this advice to prepare for more than you are expecting just in case things get worse.
The better prepared you are, the less stress you will have to deal with once a storm is upon your area.

How To Prepare Yourself for The Hurricane Season and More!
You don’t have to live in a hurricane area to be prepared for natural or other disasters.
Even though the 2021 Hurricane Season officially began on June 1, there are other reasons why it pays to prepare your home and your family for emergencies that could cause you to be without power, water,and outside resources or force you to leave your home.
Those of us in Texas had no idea that in February we’d have snow and freezing weather that caused massive power outages and some shortages in stores and gas stations. (more than 4.5 million homes and businesses were without power)
Fires or earthquakes in CA, tornadoes, or a gas leak in your community could force you out of your home.
What to do…
Make a plan
Know where you would go and what you would take. Write it down and don’t just have it in your head.
Know what your insurance covers
Knowing what will and won’t be covered helps to alleviate some of the stress in these situations.
Gather your supplies
Most of us have non-perishables in our pantry but now is a good time to inventory what you have. Make sure that what you have would not require an oven or microwave! Don’t laugh at peanut butter or crackers!
Check to make sure that you have a can opener and utensils for these supplies. Check your First Aid Kits
Buy a case or gallon jug of water every time you go to the market. Remember-one gallon a day per person.
Check your flashlights, batteries, and any other emergency equipment you might need. If you’ve stored batteries in a flashlight that you haven’t used in a while, be sure to check that there’s no corrosion.
If you have external batteries for charging your devices make sure they’re charged and you know where they are.
Note: Invest in a headlamp for hands-free lighting!
Take photos and videos of your home inside and out.
Make sure that your devices and important information is backed up.
This is not just for your personal information for what you need at work. Make it a habit to do so.
Have a printed list of numbers you need
If the internet is down, how are you going to access the numbers? You’ll want numbers for the important people in your life, medical, insurance...whatever and whomever you need to contact.
Prepare your car
Should you decide to evacuate, is your car reliable? If you’ve been delaying certain repairs, now is the time to make sure that you and your family will be safe should you decide to leave the area.
Also make sure that your car has flashlights, a first aid kit, and a road map!)

Have an Emergency “To Go” Bag
What if you had to leave your home with only a few minute’s notice? Would you know what to take and would you be able to gather it quickly?
Medication? Glasses? Keys? Checkbook and credit cards?
Don’t Forget to Prepare for Your Pets!
For example, some shelters will not take pets, and if they do, they need proof of vaccines.
Chances are you will never have to use these tips...I hope not. But why not give yourself and your family peace of mind!
