HAVE A HEART
It takes a special Agent to help a senior move. The emotional impact may be greater than expected but a trained Agent who earned their SRES, the Seniors Real Estate Specialist designation can make a difference. Agents awarded by the SRES Council to REALTORS have successfully completed coursework on the real estate needs of home buyers age 50+ community.
Going to the movies is a nostalgic past time of many seniors. As a REALTOR® with a SRES designation, who also loves old movies and helping seniors, I tied some quotes with life experiences.
What the Sales Agent may say to a Client:
“I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” The Godfather 1972)
What the Buyers may say when they purchase a property online without Buyer’s Representation:
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” The Wizard of Oz (1939)
What Buyers & Sellers may say during Multiple Offers:
“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night.” All About Eve (1950)
Buyer’s Remorse:
“The mirror it’s broken…. Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.” The Apartment (1960)
An Angry Client:
“What we’ve got here is a failure to communicate!” Cool Hand Luke (1967)
Having to Move because the Landlord or Family said so:
“Takes no nerve to do something, ain’t nothing else you can do.” Grapes of Wrath (1940)
An unhappy Client:
“You’re tearing me apart.” Rebel Without a Cause (1955)
A Senior who may be more prepared before signing a contract:
“Hand me my purse, will you darling? A girl can’t read that sort of thing without her lipstick.” Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
A Professional properly trained and experienced:
“If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb inside his skin and walk around.” To Kill a Mocking Bird (1962)
In all seriousness, elders who need to move are dealing with a lot more than people realize and should be respected with dignity and respect. Things to consider when representing seniors include:
- Aging ailments, emotional, and financial stress
- Loss of Independence
- Leaving their social network and familiar surroundings
- Need to stay busy when there isn’t enough time for family visits
- Support from people and doctors who specialize in their needs
I specialize in transitioning Seniors. My content and photos are like me, original. The source of quotes are noted. The photo was taken when I visited Galveston, Texas where trees were sculptured by artists after Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Many of the trees were nostalgic carvings to help the residents cope with their losses. Keeping memories alive is very important to seniors.
