Mortgage Fraud

In the Sun-Sentinel today was an article about several people being arrested for Mortgage Fraud. Here is a clip from the article.

FORT LAUDERDALE - Federal prosecutors announced mortgage fraud charges today against six Broward County residents and one person from Palm Beach County who are accused of fraudulently obtaining home loans worth $10 million to purchase area properties.

Anthony Dehaney, 56, and Andrea Dehaney, 42, both of
Coral Springs, were arrested late Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Also charged in the 60-page, 28-count indictment are Howard Gaines, 57, of
Delray Beach; Marcia Mestre, 51, of Lauderhill; Beverly Ireland, 51, of Plantation; Donna Patricia Grant, 49, of Wilton Manors; and Angela Manalaysay, 37, of Plantation.

According to the charges, Anthony Dehaney orchestrated a conspiracy to obtain mortgages from various lenders and recruited individuals to pose as home buyers.

Those indicted include mortgage brokers, title agents, real estate appraisers, bank employees and other industry insiders.

Its a shame to see this. The paper also went on to say that Florida is the number 1 state for mortgage fraud. That is hard to see, but a true fact. More and more people are getting caught. Getting things cleaned up will work better for us in the end!

What is your thought on this??

FORT LAUDERDALE - A federal judge sentenced a South Florida title agent to eight years in prison today for his role in a multi-million dollar mortgage fraud scheme in Broward County Click here for restaurant inspection reports.

Howard Gaines, 58, of Delray Beach, was convicted in December of conspiracy and fraud charges for using his Deerfield Beach title agency, Your Title Choice Inc., to help co-conspirators close on more than $5 million in fraudulent loans.

Prosecutors said Gaines processed several home loans for Anthony Dehaney, 58, of Coral Springs, even though Dehaney lacked necessary down payments.

Dehaney pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight years in December

Justin and Sarah check up on daddy.  Again..... he has always done dirty deals.  You can not deny any of this.  Take a look at all the evidence.

Gaines, 57, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and two counts of mail fraud. He is scheduled to be sentenced in February. The maximum sentence is 45 years in prison. His attorney, Stephen Binhak, did not return a call seeking comment.

"I'd like to see him get more prison (time); he's done some bad things," said Doug Pollock, a property crimes expert who testified in the trial after reviewing several sales processed by Gaines' title company. "I think some prosecutor (in Hillsborough) will use this conviction to say, 'I want a piece of him, too.' "

The most outrageous part of his testimony in the mortgage fraud case was his attempt to implicate his employees. He'd rather have seen innocent people go to to jail than accept that he'd been caught. But, that is how he's operated his whole life.

Ask Howard about his involvement in the NYC PVB towing scandal. He luckily sidestepped that one. But, many of his friends were found guilty when they were all investigated by the FBI. Ask him why Assemblyman Ivan Lafayette fired him as counsel. Ask him about the contract his step mother took out on his life and what drove her to  that. Ask him about how he screwed over his own father and drove him to an early grave. Ask him about all the affairs he's had.

The man has never played it straight with anyone or anything. He's finally been caught after a lifetime of looking for shortcuts, indulging his ego and not caring who gets hurt along the way. I, for one, say it's about time!

If this is the Howard Gaines who went to Hastings Law School in San Francisco in the Seventies, then I know him from a long time ago since I went to the same law school. However, I have not seen him or had any contact with him since 1977.

I would be most appreciative if Howard's ex-wife and anonymous (January 28 posting) would please email me at rextrut@aol.com or call me at (702) 362-8106 in Las Vegas.

Many kind thanks for your time.

Down with capitalism-

Where did you get that info? Absolutely nothing has made the news or the FBI's website to that effect.

The ex

Well Warren,

Although castration would also be a nice option, I don't believe either sentence is within the realm of reality. He's only facing a maximum of 45 years :)

Why does his sentence date keep getting changed?  He's going to get away with this like the long list of other things his ex-wife and anonymus listed.  Anyone know what is up?

If, after all this time, anyone's interested, Howard has been released from prison. He served less than 2 years.
