You'll Never Believe What Saved Me While on Vacation!

By

No, I didn't have to get saved from a shark attack while on my beach vacation.  (Though I did panic and empty the ocean by screaming "SHARK" when I spotted a dolphin fin about 30 seconds after my son had freaked me out with a shark story.)  Yes, I was totally embarrassed but that is a whole other story...

Anyway, try as we might, Realtors never truely get to go on vacation.  For the most part I had planned it well.  I had a great voice mail message instructing callers depending on their needs. Thanks Tina for fielding most of those those calls!

I brought my computer (as I had listings and one was brand new) so I could check my emails once a day and make sure that wasn't an offer or something else important that I might miss!

The first day I want to sign on, nothing...no internet.   I couldn't grab any of the unsecured wireless bike to the librarynetworks and I hadn't brought an air card.  Oh no!  The panic started setting in and all of a sudden I just HAD to check my email mail because I just KNEW that there was something in there that needed my immediate attention.  I start to work myself into a little frenzy.

I get on my beach cruiser and head down the street where I heard that there might an internet cafe that has computers.  On my way, I spy with my little eye....The Balboa Branch of the Newport Beach Public Library!  screech.... they have computers!  I go in and they were so gracious and sign me right up with a guess pass!  Whew.  Saved.  I signed on and took care of my emails. Thank you so much to the Newport Beach Library!

This made me think about all the great amenities at our very own Fullerton Public Library.  Of course they have computers to use but you can also:

  • Check out books (guess that is an obvious one)
  • DVD rentals
  • Get your passport
  • Public Events
  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Book Sales
  • Rent Space for a Meeting
  • Search Maps and Historic Documents

The economy is tough and the local library is something we pay for with our hard earned tax dollars.  So why not check out the Fullerton Public Library today? It is right in Downtown Fullerton!  You will be pleasantly surprised and you can even ride your bike there! Go green and save on gas!

CRISTAL - I think that the library is the best kept secret in many aspects.  Our library is great, and now with technology, we can check and see if something that we want is in, and if not, we can order it from another library.  We get a call when it comes in, and we have 3 days to pick it up.  I can't remember the last time that we rented a DVD.  We are paying for it anyway with our taxes, so why not take advantage of it?

Chrystal, So glad you "found" the library where you can even check out books! This is such a good reminder to all of us to support our local libraries. Just think if every  active AR member did a post on their local library, what an impact that would make. Thanks for the idea!!

Adam, you are so right!  Why is it that it just never really occurs to us!  I know each time I go I think "why don't I come here more often?"

Margaret!  Oh, I think that is a great idea.  That is an easy post that everyone can do!  I will be looking at your blog to check out your library! :o)

Cristal, Your story made me laugh.  I was without internet and phone service for two days during the move....on Saturday I ran to our public library!  They give you one hour and the computer times you out---so I answered emails and it was time to go.  But when I finally had a real vacation last year, I didn't even call home :) or use their free internet services!

Carole, yes now it seems funny but at the time I was just having anxiety! You ran to the library too?  That is so funny!  It is a good thing to keep in mind that is for sure!  I love that you went on vacation and didn't even call home!

Trunda, that is great that you go twice a week!  I guess it doesn't occur unless I have some sort of internet emergency! :o)  I am going to try to make it there more often!
