Matt Padilla Scheduled For Radio Mortgage

By
Commercial Real Estate Agent with Matthews Capital Markets NMLS 2415712

Have you been listening to, or participating in Radio Mortgage ?  Each Monday afternoon, at 4PM, we invite California REALTORs to listen to and participate in our 40-60 minute "radio broadcast".  Of course, we welcome ALL REALTORs but the show is focused on helping California REALTORs thrive in this market.

Our first show discussed the Fannie/Freddie Bailout.  Last week, we hosted Ronda Green from the Nehemiah Down Payment Assistance Program.

Our guest this Monday (September 22) is Matt Padilla.  Matt is a regular business and finance columnist with OC Register.  He co-authored a book about the mortgage crisis, Chain of Blame- How Wall Street Caused the Mortgage Crisis.  Needless to say, Matt's appearance on Radio Mortgage is timely.

California REALTORs do NOT want to miss this broadcast.  Matt's knowledge and experience is unparalleled in the media.  He's interviewed Angelo Mozilo among other industry leaders.  We'll spend 20-30 minutes with Matt and open the show for questions.

I almost always respect your posts.  However, on this one, I really think that you missed the mark.

I just relocated to San Diego this year after more than 38 years in Orange County.  With all due respect, Padilla is a "Hack".  I followed him and Jon Lansner of the Register for years.  Most of their reporting involved sensationalism vs. real investigative reporting.

I cornered Padilla last year in the hallway after a speech that he made to a real estate group in Irvine.  His leading remarks were, " My job is to promote doom and gloom in this business sector."  This comment and his speech as a whole made me so livid that I ran him down in the hallway after his speech.  I also then, as well as often in his blog gave him some insightful insight to our industry.  In many cases I practically handed him breaking news info that most intelligent reporters would have jumped on in a heart beat.

Never once did he do a researched report.  Rather, he focased on the doom and gloom to ratchet up paper sales and blog activity.  Whatever information he got for his book, either his partner provided or as he often did repeatedly asked for confidential information from the public.  The diferrence is that he was and is very selective on what he reports based on how it will affect the paper or him.

His purpose is to sell papers.  Before you make a choice for your program, you might want to do more research on your speakers.

Like I said, I respect you and your candor, but you really have no clue who you are dealing with here with Padilla.

Sorry for the tyraid, but after reading and hearing his babble for years, I almost fell of my chair after reading about your upcoming guest.

Best Regards

I hear ya, Wayne.  I've read his book about the mortgage crisis and can tell you that his analysis is not sensational; it's dead on.

I worked on both sides of the aisle- securities and mortgage origination.  I've seen the mess he writes about

I'll leave the questioning to you and others that call in.  After 38 years in Orange County, I read and heard enough from Padilla and the likes of him.

Again, I respect you and your efforts.  These are definitely trying times, and we are charting waters never ventured before.

Right now, this country needs level-headed thinking, and not sensationalism to sell papers and books which of course is Padilla's agenda.

Best Regards
