Which Wolf Are You Feeding?

By
Real Estate Agent with EXIT Realty Legacy

A story is told that one evening, an old Cherokee chief told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Now, I didn't write this little story, and I don't know who did, or I certainly give him or her the credit they are abundantly due. But, with all the worrisome stuff in the news of late, I thought a cautionary reminder for us all might be in order -- Let's take care to feed the right "Wolf".

Here's wishing us all the very best of faith, hope, courage and success despite the storm!

Beautiful story and ohhh so true to our lives and our children's lives.  Wish we had this wisdom when we were growing up, but as Maya Angelou says "now that we know better, we do better."

I love this story.  It is my favorite Indian story because it is quick to the point. I also have heard it before but thank you for the reminder.  It can work for other emotions like, Fear (fearful wolves), Sadness (Sad Wolves), what ever you want....Better to feed Happy, productive, wise, profitable and compassionate wolves...don't ya think?

I just remember my favorite four-letter words

LOVE, HELP, and FREE

and then apply my Four P's

PERSONABLE
POLITE
POSITIVE, and
PROFESSIONAL.

I've found that if I keep those in mind,
a fifth P magically shows up:

Profit.

Dave, I love this.  I believe it's a Native American legend that has been passed down for so long that no one seems to know where it came from.  Certainly worth noting!

PS - Thanks for stopping and commenting on my blog, I hope you found my post as enlightening!

Dave: This is a great post...with a truly timeless lesson.  Life is about choices...even the small ones can feed the big, bad wolf.

This is one of the many reasons I choose to hang around people that are happy and fun to be around. If you surround yourself with people who are angry all the time, you are feeding the wrong wolf!
