I saw the placeholder for My Active Rain Success story under my profile this morning (Thursday 2/5/09) and I wondered how I was going to participate. If I want to participate. Then later in the afternoon, I read Brad Andersohn's latest post about Active Rain Success Stories and Testimonials. Did I hear him say 500 points? Hmmm.... that would mean I would have to write 2.5 posts less this week. Sounds like alot less work for me this week (LOL). Nah, I'm not about the points (Did I just lie?)
'Nuf said. I really want to tell my Active Rain Success Story. My goal is to share what Active Rain has done for me and to inspire those who have not yet walk the path I took.
Just 2 years ago, I was at a crossroad. I was pregnant and was ready to deliver the baby in October 2007. Most people would think I was crazy to start a new endeavor at that time. But who said I was normal?
I was at a stagnant point of my career. Yes, my real estate business. Though the broker whom I licensed under at that time supported and respected my faith-based business, I really didn't receive alot of benefits working under his business name. I ventured out to find out what I really needed and spoke to many people for advice. Where better to look than those who had constantly poured inspirations and symbols of success than those here in the 'Rain?
Going out on my own (independent brokerage, not purchasing a franchise) was scary. I had only licensed 4.5 years part-time and 6 months full-time by the time I made the decision. It also meant that I would be the sole Realtor(R) and broker of my brokerage. I wouldn't have resources to bounce ideas off of. I felt I didn't have enough bad transactions under my belt to go on my own.
I picked up the phone and reached out to some folks here in the 'Rain. One of them was Broker Bryant. On several occasions, he continued to encourage me. Since I looked up to him for the success I hope I would be someday and more importantly, he had fun selling real estate (with Bertha!) With many more blessings from others, I took the leap and went out on my own. It's the best decision I've ever made for my business. I wouldn't want it any other way. On top of that, I can contribute more towards charitable contributions because I didn't have to pay my broker the transaction fees. I really could be ALL I want to be. I am the decision maker and I am the policy breaker. There's no better position to be in with a personality just like mine.
My Active Rain story didn't just stop there.
Today, I KNOW for a FACT that I am a much better realtor(R)/ broker because of Active Rain. There are some friends that I could call and start asking away. Friends I know when I send out an email, I could almost get an instant reply. What an amazing group of people you would find here in the 'Rain? We bounce marketing ideas, we check on each other's territories, we have alot to talk about. Alot to encourage each other by. I got a Patience card from Sue White, I received a personal email from Larry Rigss about Vision Boards and Steve Shatsky "protected" me in a heated discussion. Every now and then, I get encouraging emails from people who aspire to be in my role someday. Active Rain lets me connect with people that I otherwise wouldn't. I really do feel that my life is more enriched now because of the people Active Rain connected in my life.
The human elements of this network is simply incredible. My knowledge about the real estate business increased so much because of my active participation here in the 'Rain. I have learnt so much more here in my 2 short years than I ever did in the 5 years with my 2 brokers. Need I say more about What Active Rain means to me?
Playing my role here as an active member of Active Rain is my way of giving back to the community. I share what I know along the way. I don't want to wait until I become successful. When is that going to happen anyways? I believe I can be a contributing member on what little I know about real estate and life.
Just one last note: Active Rain has grown my business in ways I never imagined. It connected me with clients that now are friends. Client friends and Active Rain friends are treasures in my heart that I know I will take with me to eternity. I smile about that day. Now that's the power of my Active Rain.
Now who said that Realtors are a bunch of self-centered folks. Not the Active Rainers, they are NOT!
