sylva nc: No Little Boxes in Sylva NC...What Is Your House Worth?Monday Melodies - 05/22/17 05:06 AM
So...like, lots of agents I've been pretty busy.  Buyers needing to see properties, contracts to write (yes!), new listings-paperwork for new listings-photos for new listings, and fielding phone calls.  Lots of phone calls from people "thinking" about listing their homes.  Digging a little deeper, more than a few won't be listing their homes for quite some time or their neighbor's house just went on the market and they don't really want to list their own house just curious about the market value.  I get it.  The challenge in small towns in the mountains of Western North Carolina is to find good comparable recent sales of … (4 comments)

sylva nc: Easy to Love and Ready to Move Into...108 Hardrock Road, Sylva, NC - 10/05/14 10:42 PM
"I have loved this house more than any other in my life", says the current owner. "The mountains can be seen through almost every window. There's a hot tub on our covered patio and the deck runs down the front and side of the house for great entertaining."   The houses that are the most pleasure to list and sell are the ones that the current owners have loved, respected and maintained. This is all that and more. "Ready to move into" is such a cliche in our industry but the house at 108 Hardrock Road is "turnkey" and "ready to … (7 comments)

sylva nc: I Can! - Jackson County NC Cooperative Extension Service Taught Me - 08/01/14 01:20 PM
I'll admit that I really didn't have a full picture of what the NC Cooperative Extension Service in Jackson County, NC did or how they affected the citizens.  I sort of got the idea that they would test soils for gardens and help people figure out how to get rid of certain pests.  The local radio station WRGC broadcasts mini shows from our County Extension Agents very regularly and the Sylva Herald New features regular guest columnists in their own article in the newspaper in addition to weekly posted events sponsored by the Extension Service office.
We're trying desperately to have some … (3 comments)

sylva nc: The Capricious Nature of Mountain Weather-Election Morning Snow Woes - 11/05/12 09:42 PM
Capricious is a word worth loving yet it doesn't come up in conversation often.   Luckily, the funny thing about mountain weather forecasts is that its all local...and capricious!  Usually the weather of outlying areas in the mountains of Western North Carolina bear no similarities to what the WLOS television station out of Asheville is predicting.  If snow had been on the ballot,  as much as I like it I still would have voted against it for today.  Not only is this one of the most important Presidential elections ever, but we've got a closing, it would have been nice to get the tires checked before … (6 comments)

sylva nc: Faded Roses...Sylvan Heights and In Town Living - 11/05/12 01:08 PM
The very best way to get a song out of your head is to pass it on, right? After photographing a new listing in Sylvan Heights on Saturday, I noticed a rose just slightly past its prime but still lovely in its own faded way…and just like that I was back in 1973 singing along with Helen Reddy. Needless to say, the words come back immediately but they never leave quite as quickly!

We’re very excited about our new listing on Walton Drive in Sylvan Heights and will be going into specifics here in the blog later in the … (9 comments)

sylva nc: 2012 Elections - We're Done! Jackson County, NC Polling Spots & Hours - 11/04/12 08:45 AM
Well, I’m relieved. Leslie and I went to our local polling place at the Balsam Willets Ochre Hill Fire Department yesterday and took advantage of early voting. Now it won’t matter if we get held up time wise at work or worry about the weather turning bad…we’ve gone ahead and exercised our right to vote.
Early voting is wonderful and for those who have been trying to eliminate or reduce the time available for voting early completely mystify me. Jackson County alone has more than 28,000 registered voters…and we’re a small county. As it was, even with our handy dandy … (7 comments)

sylva nc: Do You Think Potato Chips Grow On Trees? Lot 93 in Cane Creek Ridge - 10/04/12 10:45 PM
Do you think potato chips grow on trees?  No, this isn't a diatribe about the squandering of the spud snack or a lecture to conserve your supply...don't worry, there will be no potato politicking on this particular post.    So...anyhow...I was in the Cane Creek Ridge development two days ago.  Cane Creek Ridge is located out in the Blanton Branch area of Sylva, which is between Waynesville and Sylva off of Hwy 74 in Jackson County, NC.  My friend Eva was with me.  She also just happens to be the webwoman for the Cane Creek Ridge HOA AND knows the development like … (13 comments)
