The weather is amazing in Austin and is going to continue through the week-end. Why not check out West 5th Street in the heart of downtown Austin. Everyone has long been waiting for this restaurant to open. In fact, it has been on Zagat’s list of Most Anticipated Restaurants of 2015 in the country!

Executive Chef Ji Peng Chen and Dim Sum Chef Ling Qi Wu were born, raised and trained in China and that experience has been incorporated into the menu. The techniques are traditional and many of the dishes are classic with regional influences and sourced from local farmers. The dishes served at Wu Chow are representative of all eight styles of Chinese cuisine as well as Dim Sum (service on Saturdays and Sundays only). The restaurant is modern and sophisticated with subtle Asian influences.
Resident Dim Sum chef, Ling Qi Wu studied in New York and says it is very different from cooking. It requires patience, everything is made by hand, and literally means “a little bit of heart.” Executive Chef Ji Peng Chen is a master of all the traditionally important Sichuan dishes. He will use whatever fresh ingredients can be sourced in Texas from Lockhart Quail to local heritage pork. He does, however, remain true to the secrets he’s learned through the years.
On the Soups & Starters menu, you could try Sweet Corn and Egg Ribbon Soup or some Sichuan Spicy Wontons. Entrees include Tangerine Peel Beef and Scallions Hugging Beef (love the name!). House Specials include Peking Duck and Gong Bao Quail. Other favorites on the menu are Shanghai Soup Dumplings, Salt & Pepper Squi and Yu Xiang Eggplant. Finish off the meal with Coconut & Chinese 5 Spice Macarons or super moist Green Tea Chocolate Cake. Wu Chow is located in the bottom of the IBC Bank Building – head over there this weekend where you can expect a fresh approach to both Chinese food and design.
