Hurricane Last Minute Checklist- Irma 2017

Hurricane Irma looks like she will make her presence known, if not here in South Florida, at least somewhere along our coasts. (I hope she hurricane checkliststays far away)

Take a deep breath and use this checklist NOW

Do This Now:

~Fuel in your cars and propane tanks

~Water for the family and pets

~Non-perishable food

~Some fruits, veggies, etc because if we’re hit hard, you’ll want something fresh after a few days.

~Prescriptions-check and if you are running low, get them filled now

~Cash-have it on hand just in case power is out and ATM’s are out

~Bring in anything that could be a missile in high winds

~Take photos of the interior of your house

Put together:

~A waterproof bag to go so that if you have to leave, you can just grab it:

Include- Important papers

Medicine

Check books

Jewelry

Anything you will want with you if

you have to leave.

Phones and chargers

Prepare:

~Charge power tools that may be needed after the storm

~Check your cleaning supplies for after storm clean up, including bleach, gloves, and masks

~Flashlights and batteries-a headlamp offers hands-free light !!!

Be prepared now!

Hi Kathy it is sounding like it's going to be a huge huge storm and I sure hope everyone listens to their local authorities when they say - get out. Stay safe.

Kathy - I've been thinking of you ever since watching this morning's news - please stay safe, and get the heck out of there if they call for evacuation! If I lived there, I'd be way gone by now.

So sorry for taking so long to get back to everyone, but last minute preparations for Irma!

James Dray We are still considering it but you can't make it out of the state on a tank of gas and gas is hard to find. Doable but don't want to get caught.

Barbara Todaro oh yes, I have a bag of battery backups as well as one that is solar!  Gotta have those.

Be safe, this is a big one. The one mistake I made returning to my home after Katrina that I didn't have enough cash. Everything was cash or barter.

Hi Nina Hollander the gas, water, and bread are easy to remember but it's all of the other things like making sure you have your laundry done should you lose power, getting medication, cash and lots of little things.  Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Donald Urschalitz no kidding. Been watching the Weather Channel straight for two weeks between Harvey and Irma.

Filling the tubs full of water to flush toilets is a great convenience. We did that for the few storms that we stayed through.

Thank you Wayne Martin That's what I've been seeing. No matter what, Florida will feel Irma's impact. I keep hoping she'll move east...way east.

Thank you so much Sharon Lee we are prepared to leave if we have to.

Gabe Sanders it's not your typical hurricane, is it!

Michael Jacobs the heavy traffic I've been seeing has been due to gas lines.

Myrl Jeffcoat if they haven't been through a hurricane , please send them this. I'm sure they're taking precautions.

Grant Schneider it's going to be like that all over. The person who did our shutters said the person he helped earlier didn't have any of the hardware for the shutters!

Brian England we always have the basics but there are always st minute things to do. It's hard because IRMA has her own agenda!

thank you Sharon Tara this one is scary! I'll keep in touch.

Anna Banana Kruchten,CRS,CRB,GRI if they say evacuate, we will. We've been through hurricanes in Texas and Florida as well as the Bahamas but this one is scary.

Chris Ann Cleland the most important thing is to be ready.

Marte Cliff thank you so much. Part of the problem is gas to leave the state. If it were just a matter of going to Orlando, that would be easy but IRMA is huge and I think Orlando will feel her as well

Dick Greenberg I hope she turns Far East but it doesn't look like it.

Joe Pryor it was a zoo here at the gas stations! We will probably stay at our friends house which is newer and has impact windows as well as a house generator!

I've been following a lot of the coverage on The Weather Channel. When some of the forecasters have their sleeves rolled up and neck tie loosened, you know things are very serious Stay Safe!
