arch street: The way Searcy was. Arch St. Dirt streets. Old buildings. Card on ebay. - 05/23/22 11:42 AM

Early look at Arch Street in Searcy AR
I stumbled across this old card that is for sale on ebay right now.  We often wonder what the old buildings originally looked like.  Here is the possible answer.  Only Baugh Drug Store appeared to have a protective covered sidewalk and the streets were dirt.  The brickwork was interesting.  I plan to compare it to the same street today. There was no date on the card but it called for 1 cent postage for US and 2 cents for foreign postage.  Those were the days......

arch street: Searcy AR street 1927. Is that a mudhole? Old postcard. - 08/18/20 11:01 AM

Old Postcard found on ebay.
Here's another treasure to be found right now on ebay.  But before we see the street, let's look at the creative way it was addressed.  I was puzzled.  Something looked like a handsaw but why?  And then there were more scribbles in front of it.  THEN I GOT IT!  In R (picture of a can) (picture of a saw).  Go back and look!  Creative, isn't it!!
Now the picture.....It is an old 1927 view of Arch Street in Searcy AR.  The street seems to be so much wider then than it it now but I guess the vehicles … (8 comments)

arch street: Searcy AR folks. Another great snapshot of friends on Arch Street. - 07/04/18 07:15 AM

Jody's new car?
Here's another great old snapshot that was loaned to me with permission to share on this blog.  The writing was underneath the scanned photo and tells who was there......even down to the dog's name.  But we don't know who owned the dog!
Jody Taylor, so it says, was home from the Air Force and got himself a new car.  I assume the car on the left was it.  My understanding is that he and Anita Hart lived across the street from each other on West Arch Street in Searcy.
Note the street had a sidewalk!  I hate that eventually builders … (8 comments)

arch street: Dolls never grow old. Arch Street, Searcy AR. Anita Hart Fuller. - 02/13/18 07:19 AM

This old picture was shared by guess who?  Of course, Anita Hart Fuller, who grew up in Searcy AR, married a Searcy boy, left Searcy but still has a love for this town and stores many, many memories to share with us.
This picture was made on Arch Street with the "Woodson" house in the background.  It is found at the corner of Arch and Sowell Streets and deserves lots of respect.  Anita lived across the street.  I asked Anita who the little girl with her was and she couldn't remember who she was.  So I said, "Anita, what was the … (12 comments)

arch street: Arch Street, the way it used to be. I liked it! Historic photo. - 01/13/17 04:34 PM

Recognize this street?
It is a great view from the corner of Arch and Spring looking toward the First Methodist Church. Looking carefully you can see Security Bank on the sign, I believe.  The date is not certain but it must have been several years ago.  Car guys can tell the year by the cars in the picture.
It also appears to be a filling station down on the corner in front of the church. Historic pictures are so interesting and enjoyable.  Guess I need to visit the area and take a picture of the way it is now.  Tell us about it … (17 comments)

arch street: Another one gone. Take a last look. Give your last goodbye to this Arch Street house. - 09/07/10 05:00 AM

A friend alerted me to this house's demise.  She said she drove by and noticed activity and then the next day the whole house was gone.  There's nothing but an empty lot.  The house was bought about two years ago by the First Presbyterian Church who probably will turn the lot into a parking lot.
I hate, really hate, to see this one go.  It appeared to be in mansion-like condition and had a lovely facade.
But here are our last views.  One is from Mr. Google's walk down the street.  Until he walks again in Searcy Arkansas maybe … (24 comments)

arch street: 1912 View of Searcy Arkansas city street. Buy it right now on ebay. - 07/30/10 03:12 PM
I love this view of Searcy Arkansas that is for sale on ebay right now.  The listing says it is a 1912 view of the street on the South side of the courthouse. That would be Arch Street.  Dirt streets, old cars, old gents standing in front of Baugh's Drug Store.  It's fabulous and should be owned by this city.  It makes me have a question.  When the court house had wings added, did they take up more of the street?  Looks as if this is a mighty wide street compared to today.

arch street: For those who long for the "good ole days" here's the way it was.... - 11/06/09 07:06 AM
Sobering old photos!  These pictures are sorta continuing the story we started a few days ago regarding the house on Arch Street in Searcy Arkansas that has been changed so much.
These are what we need when we are feeling as if times are awfully tough.  Blogging buddy Anita supplied these photos of possibly some of her relatives, definitely at her home on Arch Street in Searcy.

The question is whether this man is absolutely worn out from working, whether the car hit the tree, or whether he is just doing what he usually does everyday.  If he'd had air-conditioning and TVs … (24 comments)

arch street: Arguments are just no fun but some of my readers are SO stubborn!! - 10/26/09 02:13 PM
Anita grew up in Searcy, Arkansas and I didn't.  I've just been here for the past 40 years while she's been gone.  She contributes to this blog with photos and comments.  She shared this picture and others of old Searcy with me.
I knew I'd seen that house somewhere so I took off to find it, sat in front of several country houses while people honked and stared and I finally had to call her and ask her where the house was.  The one with the little kid on the porch, I said.
She said it was this house that you'll below.  It was … (27 comments)
