Central Ohio Census - 06/28/07 11:56 AM
Columbus is still the 15th largest US city according to recent estimates by the US Census Bureau.
The Columbus Dispatch article about new population information was more locally focused than articles I read about the new information in most large newspapers and even newspapers in Ohio outside Central Ohio (Dayton Daily, Akron Beacon Journal) or maybe I just found the wrong articles.
Central Ohio population to three leaders are Powell (+ 83.2%), New Albany (+73.0%) and Pickerington (+ 66.1%) according to a table in the Columbus Dispatch article.    The Columbus Dispatch rticle written by Lisa Halverstadt and Jim Woods has great tables and graphics:

I dreamed Columbus was climbing the charts.. - 06/28/07 11:30 AM
I dreamed Columbus was climbing the census charts...
I thought I heard on the news very early this morning that Columbus was now the 14th largest city in the US.  Maybe I was more asleep than awake but I tried to find the info on the US Census Bureau site and via Google when I'd had some coffee.
National
The big news from the US Census Bureau is of course that Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US now surpassing Philadelphia.
New York city is growing.  Like most newspapers The New York Times covered the story that populations are growing in … (6 comments)

"Blog Belt status" according to the story he quotes in Business Week.
Reaction by Pittsburgh blogger Mike Madison of Pittsblog:
 "Columbus?"
The lists are the usual large metro areas and wired and wireless meccas. And Columbus, Ohio, which comes in at number 30."

According to Wikipedia's Red White & Boom entry:
"Red, White & Boom is the name of a number of annual fireworks shows in the United States, held on or near July 4 to celebration the nation's Independence Day. The title is a pun on "red, white, and blue," the colors of the American flag.

"what's your bikini?" - 06/20/07 07:23 AM
Tomorrow June 21 is the real, real beginning of summer, according to the calendar...  Are you ready for summer?  The 4th of July is right around the corner!
The 4th of July in Columbus is Red, White and Boom, the Doodah Parade....
"What's your bikini?"  from Yoplait is about goals, dieting and more.   Oprah's diet and exercise guru Bob Greene is involved now in Yoplait's campaign.  Your bikini may not actually be a bikini? I know mine's not.  Personally some of us are long past bikini.
I put one of my blogs on a diet a few weeks ago. No food blogging for Discover Columbus for … (11 comments)

On the market for a year with NO showings. What would you do? - 06/19/07 07:54 AM
Real estate is so local. I had a call  from a consumer Monday who has a home that has been on the market for a year.   He is in a small town, or probably out of town as the home is historic (built in the 1800's), it is huge and on acreage.  There's 'gotta be' great stories about the home. Who built it, who owned it...
He found me "on the internet"  I think his question was about the market in Ohio but I told him he was listed in the wrong MLS.
The house is outside of my market area. I knew the bigger, little town when … (21 comments)

"thinking outside the circle" - 06/17/07 02:49 PM
Real Living's brand is a circle with the company name in.  Real Living HER's brand is two circles.
I personally have always thought of the circles as "polka dots" but my boss recently told me the Real Living brands are circles not polka dots.
Real Living is expanding.  The story of Real Living's expansion  "Real-estate company expanding it's radius"   is in the Sunday Columbus Dispatch, today. The first sentence of the article is:
"The Real Living folks are thinking outside the circle"
Formerly known as HER Realtors, the company has been in Central Ohio since the 1950s.  Real Living was formed in 2002.

Ohio Sues Ten Lenders for Predatory Lending - 06/08/07 04:43 PM
The state of Ohio is suing ten lenders for strong arming real-estate appraisers to provide inflated values on real estate.
The Columbus Dispatch  article written by Alan Johnson says five of the ten cases are in Franklin county.  Only one lender is mentioned by name, they are  in Franklin County, I've never heard of them.   The Columbus Dispatch article says:
"Accusing 10 mortgage lenders of "unconscionable acts," Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann yesterday sued the companies he said violated the state's 5-month-old predatory-lending law."
The Columbus Business First article about the lawsuits has the names of the ten companies.
Senate Bill 185 is the "5- month-old predatory-lending law" One ActiveRain … (4 comments)

Oh Tom... It's "Take Your Dog to Work Day..." - 06/08/07 09:10 AM
soon.  From an email from the Capital Area Humane Society:
"Friday, June 22, 20067 marks the official "Take Your Dog to Work Day" this year, and it seems more and more people (and canines!) are trying to get involved in this relatively new, fun, and exciting venture. This is a wonderful concept for several reasons. Most obvious is the fact you get to spend the day with a favorite furry friend by your side. But it also helps the dog. Spending time in a new environment with relative strangers (or even not-too-often-seen friends) can help socialize your pet, getting him used to … (23 comments)

"What Silicon Valley Could Learn from Columbus Ohio" - 06/05/07 10:20 AM
"What Silicon Valley Could Learn from Columbus, Ohio" sure has a nice ring to it doesn't it?
The message to the start ups in Silicon Valley?  "Your Customer Lives in Columbus, Ohio" according to Wil Shroter of "Go Big" on his blog last week.
Columbus is the world.... I was more thrilled with someone mentioning Columbus Ohio until I realized the entrepenuer blogger is from Columbus Ohio..... The blogger whose blog I caught the story that Columbus is the world is in Central Japan, though and Myspace is "Mixi" in Japan!
Maybe my survey is flawed.  Maybe surveying people on the internet about whether they use Craigslist is … (0 comments)

Showing Feedback Lawsuit - 06/05/07 03:08 AM
We routinely do showing feedback in our Central Ohio real estate market.  Above is the form my office uses.  A link to a website with the above questions for the specific property is generated when a showing is scheduled. The emailed feedback request goes out the evening of the showing.
When I show a home I get a fax or an email or a call or all of the above asking about the buyers interest in the property, what the buyer thinks about pricing, how well the property shows.
What's confidential info? What do you as a buyer want shared with the seller about their situation, likes, dislikes, … (10 comments)

Minerva Park in the summer... - 06/01/07 09:29 AM
I first drove through Minerva Park in the winter... in 1990. Sometimes I think Minerva Park with it's lakes, ravines, streams and trees is prettiest in winter.
Yes I think Minerva Park is prettiest in the winter... except when it is spring and the flowering trees are blooming and the daffodils and tulips are blooming... then I think Minerva Park is prettiest in the spring.
Yes I think Minerva park is prettiest in the spring.... except when the tree's are blazing reds, yellows and oranges in autumn...... Minerva Park has lots of trees then I think Minerva Park is … (4 comments)
