uconn womens basketball: Connecticut is Again the Center of College Basketball - 04/04/23 07:34 AM
Connecticut is Again the Center of College Basketball
In October 2022, it was a question of how far could they go both the women and the men's basketball teams.  The women had lost 2 of their best players to season ending injuries, and the men had unknowns due to graduation, early exits and transfers into the program.
Both teams started out strong, but as the season progressed the women's side were hit with one injury after another and even had to postpone a game as they did not have sufficient players to field a team.  Still through the season and into the tournament, … (13 comments)

It's Showtime for College Basketball and Connecticut is Ready
It is almost impossible for anybody to not know what the term March Madness means. If you don't know, then it is the zaniness and the competition of the best in men's and women's basketball competing over 4 weeks to determine the National Champion.
The games start tonight in Las Vegas for the men, and on Friday the start for the women in Seattle. These dates are for the UConn men and women. All are competing in a win or go home to see who will play for the National Championship next weekend.
This year … (15 comments)

uconn womens basketball: The Number 100 is Significant, Especially in Sports - 02/14/17 05:13 AM
It is called the Century mark for the rarity, at one time, it would have been reached by individuals celebrating birthdays.
When looking at the denominations on currency, it is the largest bill currently minted by the US Treasury.
It represents a number difficult to reach when playing basketball at a level other than the pros.
It is the number of games won rarely reached by Major League teams in a season.
And the list can go on much longer.
In college basketball, it now represents the number of consecutive games won by the University of Connecticut women's basketball team.   While the purists will belittle that achievement with a side … (14 comments)

uconn womens basketball: UConn Women Win Their 11th NCAA Basketball Championship - 04/06/16 11:50 AM
Can Excellence Really Be a Bad Thing?
For fans and followers of the women's basketball tournament the results were as expected and for many as hoped. The UConn women's basketball team won their 4th straight tournament championship, which was also their 11th National championship in the last 20 years.
This puts this dynasty of amateurs in a very select group for team sports. There are many people that believe this much success is bad for the sport. Just like the NY Yankees with their winning ways of 28 championships would have been bad for baseball, but like the Yankees did with buying their … (8 comments)

uconn womens basketball: UConn Women's Basketball National Champs in 2014 - 04/08/14 09:22 PM
The Road to Women's Basketball Perfection Still Runs through Storrs CT

It was going to be the clash of 2 unbeatens on a neutral court. Undefeated Notre Dame at 37 -0 against UConn at 39-0. When the ball was tipped up, it bounced primarily UConn's way giving the women's basketball team from UConn their 9th National Title and ownership of the top of the mountain.
This is the 5th time that the women have had a perfect unbeaten season, and with the continuation of their streak from last year, they will begin the new basketball season this fall with a … (12 comments)

After This All Else Will Be Difficult to Accept . . UConn Women's Basketball
There was a big basketball game Monday night between the UConn Women's basketball team, ranked #2 in the country and the Stanford women's team, ranked #3. We had what were some of the best seats in the XL center in a sky box.
We were guests of a Hartford law firm, that does work with my wife's office. As a last minute substitute, I was happy to oblige and on my best behavior.
The game itself was a down and out battle, with the intensity of an … (4 comments)

uconn womens basketball: NCAA Basketball Championships . . It's Final 4 Weekend - 04/02/11 12:57 AM
NCAA Basketball Championships . . It's Final 4 Weekend It's going to be an active weekend for followers of college basketball, and if you're from Connecticut, you will have twice as much to see. Both the UConn men's and women's teams made it through their tournaments to reach the Final 4. Only once in the history of the tournament have both men's and women's teams from a collgeg won the tournament, and that was in 2004, and that was Connecticut. Maybe history will repeat itself this weekend.

VCU/Butler will be against 2 teams that very, very few picked to get … (10 comments)

uconn womens basketball: NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Elite 8 Match-ups - 03/28/11 07:11 AM
NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Elite 8 Match-ups
The weekend games were tight and the battles expected from the field of 16 finalists. Eight were eliminated, and some didn't give up without a fight.
On to the Elite 8. Now the games will get tighter and will be better contested. Coaches believe that these are the toughest games to win and that once in the Final 4 they might be a bit easy. These games have all National Title winners playing, so all the coaches know how to get to the Final 4, and will be coaching and urging their … (2 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Round of Sweet 16, Day 2
The brackets are getting depleted, and there are 4 games left to set up the Elite 8 for Monday and Tuesday night.
Tennessee will face Notre Dame on one side of the Elite 8, with their eye on next weekend's Final 4 match ups in Indianapolis
Gonzaga will face Stanford on the other side of that bracket.
The Sunday matches are below

My picks in these match-ups are Connecticut, DePaul. Texas A & M and Baylor. We'll see later how they fared.

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 4 Last Games before The Sweet 16
There were some real challenging games in the Women's tournament yesterday with one upset, Gonzaga at #11 beating up resoundingly over #3 UCLA. Also, #1 Tennessee had to fight all the way through the game to beat #8 Marquette, and if not for Marquette's best re-bounder fouling out with 2 minutes to go it might have been different. Duke also had to battle it out against Marist, and only at the end did they take the lead and win.
Today's games can bring more of the same as the … (5 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 3 Working to Get to The Sweet 16
Today begins the quest to reach the round of 16, or Sweet 16. As expected there were no real surprises with low seeds being upset by higher seeds, and a 9 beating an 8 is not a big upset.
My women's brackets are all intact, but that could change now. The remaining 32 teams are the better teams in women's basketball. This is where we can expect an upset, because of the 'On any given Day Principle'.

The Tennessee/Marquette match-up could prove to be interesting and close, … (4 comments)

uconn womens basketball: NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 2 May Not Show Any Surprises - 03/20/11 12:43 AM
NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: Day 2 May Not Show Any Surprises
The first day of the Women's Championships did not have too many surprises, as the only games where there were upsets were in the mid numbered brackets and for the most part all the higher seeds won. Today's games should not be very different.

Our 2 entries from Connecticut, UConn at #1 and Hartford play today. The problem for Hartford is that it's game is against UConn, so it will be a short tournament for them.
The games will set up for Monday and Tuesday, to set the … (3 comments)

NCAA Women's Basketball Championships: The Excitement Continues
The NCAA Women's Basketball Championships start today. Not as much dissension as the men's side, onlybecause there are not as many competitive teams as on the men's side. It will still be a battle in games never the less, just not in the first rounds.
The Final Four on the women's side are projected to be UConn, Baylor, Stanford, and Tennessee. Still in the hunt could be Duke's women, however.
Unlike the last 2 years, UConn is not the prohibitive favorite to win it all and get their 3rd consecutive National Championship,. However, … (3 comments)

Big East Basketball Has it's Home In Storrs Connecticut
The UConn women did it last weekend, they won the Big East Women's Tournament title after winning the regular conference title. Nothing new there they've done it 17 times.
Last night in New York City, at The garden, the most famous area in the world, the Connecticut Men's Basketball team set multiple records in winning the Big East Men's Tournament title.
Record setting because they did the never before done feat of winning 5 games in five nights. Not even the millionaires called the NBA play 5 games in 5 nights, … (7 comments)

The UConn Women's Basketball Team are the Center of the College Basketball Universe
Last night in Hartford, the most revered record in College Basketball was shattered by the UConn Women's Basketball Team. The UCLA record of 88 consecutive victories set by their men's team in the early 70's with John Wooden as coach was surpassed by the 2010 Geno Auriemma coached women's Team.
The team faced a ranked Florida State team at the Hartford XL center, and within 5 minutes the tone was set. At the end of the game, UConn 93, Florida State 62, and the crowd stood as … (5 comments)

The UConn women's Basketball Team played a road game this afternoon against Georgia Tech which was also a homecoming game of sorts for UConn senior Maya Moore, #23. The current winning streak for the team is at 81, which ties the all-time women's basketball record set by Washington University of St. Louis, a Division III program, from 1998-2001.They are seven victories shy of tying the UCLA men's record of 88 straight, the longest in the history of NCAA Division I basketball.

uconn womens basketball: The Perfect Description of Excellence --- The UConn Women's Basketball Team - 11/17/10 02:16 PM
I love sports. There I've admitted to it. I've played sports all my life both sandlot style and organized. My limitations have been my less than perfect figure and feet that don't move as fast as my mind would like them to.

Here in CT, we have a plethora of sports both professional and collegiate available because of being sandwiched between Massachusetts, where the professionals play, and New York where the other ones play.
Within the state the showcase teams are the UConn Men's and Women's Basketball teams and even though some may argue gender inequalities, the UConn Women's Basketball team … (4 comments)
