rhinebeck: Hudson Valley Fall Colors a few of my favorite scenes - 11/04/18 11:41 PM
Fall in the Hudson Valley  in 2018
This is a scene on River Road which runs between Red Hook and Rhinebeck.  It is called River Road because the Hudson River is nearby.  On this road are some beautiful estates right on the banks of the river.

This is a scene from Blithewood on the Bard College campus, showing the Catskills and Hudson River.
Love this burst of yellow outside a nursing home on River Road.
A couple weeks ago I thought the Fall season would be a total bust but things turned around.
On Saturday it rained and there was a strong wind so these scenes no longer … (12 comments)

Wouldn't you know it, the temperature dropped.  I know it is cold but don't let that stop you from coming out.
Here is the link to the invitation and directions.  http://vid.us/yroxlz

rhinebeck: Wordless Wednesday - Horse Country Stanfordville NY - 12/02/09 12:37 PM

You might be saying where are the horses? although not seen in this exquisite view ,Stanfordville is horse country. Recently I was previewing properties in the area for a client looking for a second home in the country and every other property seemed to have horses.  The area in which I was looking had property size from 10 acres up.
Stanfordville is a popular area for second homes. I suspect it is so popular because of the open space,  beautiful views and it's proximity to Rhinebeck and Millbrook.

rhinebeck: Saturday night in Rhinebeck with my boys - 10/18/08 03:24 PM
This morning I made a reservation for dinner at the restaurant at the Rhinecliff Hotel.  Let me back up a bit; for our  25th wedding anniversary in 2006 our children gave us a gift certificate to this restaurant.  The opening of the hotel had been delayed and today was the first time since it opened that we could make it.
The trip to the restaurant should have been rather short however there was a lot going on in Rhinebeck this weekend.  The largest event was the Sheep and Wool Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds.  I had a couple of routes I could have … (25 comments)

If you are seeing Hot Rods all over the Hudson Valley this is no surprise. These cars are heading to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck to the 17th Good Guys East Coast Nationals Hot Rod & Custom Car Show .
This is an activity that the whole family can enjoy. It is always great fun to see how creative people can be in restoring and customizing these beauties. For some of us it may even bring us back to the days of our youth. So if classic cars are your thing, head over to the Fairground this weekend.

rhinebeck: Rhinecliff Waterfront Day come join in the fun - 08/13/08 04:53 PM
Rhinecliff is a hamlet in the township of Rhinebeck.  It is one of the oldest intact hamlet along the Hudson River with terrific views of the Catskills Mountains and is designated part of a scenic corridor.
If you come by boat or train, Rhinecliff is the gateway to Rhinebeck.  The Dock is located just on the other side of the train station.  The village take pride in the waterfront and is working at making it more of a spot to be enjoyed by the community.
With this in mind this Saturday will be the 4th annual Rhinecliff Waterfront day. It will … (4 comments)

rhinebeck: Rhinebeck and Red Hook residents make sure You have a CO before listing your home - 08/06/08 02:01 PM
Yes there was a time way back when, when a homeowner could make changes to a structure and did not have to answer to the town.  Those days are long gone and today most towns have a zoning code  enforcement office.
For many, the code enorcement officer is a person a homeowner would rather not see, but, if you own a home you will have to interface with the code enforcement office.
You might ask why have such an office?  This became necessary because we became more safety conscious.  Here are just a few situations code enforcement could prevent.
Enforcing codes can prevent … (12 comments)

The annual Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck NY will be held on August 19th-24th this year.  Now would be a great time to make your plans.  Why not turn this into a mini-vacation considering there are so many other things to see in the area.

rhinebeck: Dutchess County NY Real Estate Market Report June 2008 - 07/10/08 01:17 AM

 Dutchess County Real Estate
Reviewing the June statistics for Dutchess County it was noticed that the number of units sold dropped 20.2 percent when compared to the same time last year.  At the same time there were 37 more sales this month than in May 2008. Both average and median prices also fell as can be seen in the numbers below.
This market continues to be challenging especially for sellers because of the high inventory and the rise in foreclosure in some areas.  At the same time there are many investors who sees it as a period of great opportunity and are now purchasing properties at a bargain … (2 comments)

rhinebeck: The Phantom Gardener A Rhinebeck Garden Center - 03/15/08 11:35 AM

With spring approaching we are all looking forward to getting our gardens going and to restore the general landscape after a very harsh winter and the damage done by the deer population.  This is even more important if you are considering selling your home this spring.  Thankfully, we have local garden centers such as The Phantom Gardener in Rhinebeck.
Luanne Panarotti of The Phantom Gardener, Inc. told me, "The Phantom Gardener has everything you need to create and enjoy an organic home and sustainable landscape.   Our knowledgeable staff can help you choose from an unbeatable selection of herbaceous or woody … (15 comments)

rhinebeck: Milan's Fork In The Road - 03/02/08 10:27 AM

This is not an illusion- you are really seeing a fork in the road.  This sculpture is usually used as a reference point when giving people directions to Red Hook or Rhinebeck.  Say, you are on the Taconic  State Parkway and would would like to get to Rhinebeck. You would get off at the Rhinebeck exit and take a left on Route 199 in Milan to the first light where the road literally forks; go left  and you would be on Route 308 which would take you to the village of Rhinebeck or continue to the right on Route 199 and … (11 comments)

rhinebeck: Dutchess County EMS and Fire Departments - 01/06/08 04:03 AM
Dutchess County EMS and Fire Departments
When moving to a new area it is also important to checkout the emergency medical services in place and the location of the fire departments.
These days, before you can even close on a house the insurance company is also interested in knowing where your new home will be located in relationship to the fire house.    The closer you are the cheaper your insurance will be.   Some of us who want a more quiet life will be willing to fork over a few extra dollars just to be further away.

According to the Daily Freeman, Public access TV for Northern Dutchess Area known locally as PANDA has been relocated from Rhinebeck to the village of Tivoli.  The station is now housed in a rustic 1870 Barn that has been updated with fiber optic cable.
The station services the Red Hook, Rhinebeck and  Tivoli communities, thus these municipalities provides some funding.
One important function of the station is to cover the various meetings held at the town and village halls.  This give  members of the community a chance to see what is happening in town even if they can't find the time to visit a … (6 comments)

rhinebeck: Rhinebeck Market Report - 10/17/07 02:10 PM
We are now more than three quarters into 2007 and the Rhinebeck area still has a good amount of active listings.
The lowest price listing is: $37,000
The highest price listing is: $4,200,000
There are 12 accepted offers, 8 properties in contract,
25 properties were sold.
Lowest:$ 68,000
Highest:$ 2,685,000
Most of the sold properties were sold for less than the listing price.  Only one property was sold at listing price, and one above listing price.
There was one new construction that was reduced to almost half; a drop of $585,650. This is not typical, so, buyers should not expect to find bargains like this.

rhinebeck: Dutchess County Real Estate Market Report August 07 - 09/16/07 01:29 PM
August again saw a drop in sales of single family detached homes. At the same time there was an increase in both inventory and days on the market.
On the other hand Condos and townhouses saw increase in the number of units sold and a reduction in the number of days on the market which does indicate that more people are buying these types of properties, and the sales are happening faster.  One reason for this could be these units are more affordable than single family detached properties.
