Manufactured Homes As "ADUs"

"Manufactured Homes have been around for decades, and have evolved with the times. They are banned in some jurisdictions from being an ADU due to legacy zoning codes. But, where they are allowed to be built and installed as ADUs, they offer an affordable and streamlined way to add one to a property. All of California allows for HUD manufactured homes as ADUs. Many if not most are jumping on board as well."
"Join us to hear from one of the top teams in building manufactured homes as ADUs, Crest Backyard Homes based in the San Diego region, as they provide … (14 comments)

ADU News You Can Use
Do It Yourself? Or Hire An Experienced Team?We all know our limitations and when it's time to call in the experts. Even as a general contractor I'm the first to realize that, while I'm responsible for all the experts, sub contractors, architects, engineers and tradesmen on any/all contracts I enter into, never would I venture into areas that I'm not experienced in.
However, there are those that do have the trade skills and experience to take on  the myriad tasks involved in a construction project and for those that do I have the utmost respect. But for … (9 comments)

casita: Why "ADU MAGAZINE" Loves CREST BACKYARD HOMES - 07/29/21 09:36 PM
Why "ADU Magazine" Loves
CREST BACKYARD HOMES
We were honored to have been selected as a feature article for ADU Magazine. There is definitely an ever increasing interest and demand for
BACKYARD HOMES and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact statistics show that even in light of all the COVID concerns, permits for them are doubling and tripling throughout the State and spreading like a wind fanned fire throughout most of the Country.

With the lack of adequate land availability, let alone the high premiums developers have to pay for the dirt, coupled with stifling if not prohibitive developmental and … (8 comments)

Accessory Dwelling Units Are Not A
Back It Up and Plug It In procedure

Accessory Dwelling Units Are Not A Back It Up and Plug It In Procedure. Inexpensive? Fast? Easy? In a word, NO! Adding a 500sf BACKYARD HOME to your property can be
every bit as complicated, time consuming and costly, relatively speaking, as building a 5000sf home.

Smaller is not always cheaper in construction. Contractors, as in almost any business, have to deal with economies of scale.

How much time will it take a contractor to wallow through the permit process for a 500sf ADU? Probably just about as long … (12 comments)

BACKYARD HOME anyone? The city of Encinitas continues to lead the field when it comes to embracing and implementing the latest California laws on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU). It's been somewhat of a challenge for most of the San Diego Jurisdictions to come to terms with. However, Encinitas has gone far beyond the pale.
They have actually launched what they proudly call their PRADU Program and waived all their permits including the grading permit. Additionally, there will be no school fees for any ADU under 500sf. This greatly reduces the … (7 comments)
