fruit trees: The calamonsi fruit is the perfect size for you - 04/30/23 03:13 PM
The calamonsi fruit is the perfect size for youCalamonsi/Calamondin:  These little citrus fruits are just the right size for individual servings... in a cocktail, or on a plate with some fish/seafood.  Native to the Philippines, you'll find them in many Hawai'i gardens, and if you're lucky they bear fruit all year round, like the tree pictured above.  You might also try growing them in your climate, if you bring the potted plant indoors for the winter months.
You can pick them while still green, for a tart flavor, or wait until they ripen to orange for a delicious sweet/sour burst.  They also … (11 comments)

fruit trees: Bottlebrush tree in Kula Maui HI 96790 - 08/13/19 02:03 AM
It's an easy post - a picture of a bottlebrush tree taken while touring homes for sale in Kula Maui.  We see so many beautifully landscaped yards and I can't help but notice and take pictures.
The upcountry climate favors more temperate species, unlike the hot and steamy north shore, or the arid lowlands by the beaches.
Kula Maui is where you can grow such fruit trees as apples and peaches, veggies like artichokes and cauliflower, along with so many other flowers and foods.

fruit trees: Picking papayas from the tree in Haiku Maui Hawaii - 02/27/19 03:53 PM
Papayas are a favorite tropical fruit around the world.
We are blessed with a bounty of papayas this season, despite the wet winter.  It seems the rich soil from the previous veggie garden has made a big difference.  So I put together a short 1 minute video to show what the trees look like and how to pick the fruits, since many people have no idea where papayas come from.
It takes about a year to year and a half from planting to picking.  To really be on top of things you'd be starting more seeds every year or two to replace the … (7 comments)

fruit trees: Haiku Maui off-grid building site with views! FOR SALE - 08/26/18 08:30 PM
Haiku Maui Hawaii off-grid building site with views!   FOR SALE
Haiku Maui - Burns Road is accessed from the lower end of Kaupakalua Road, and much of this area is ranch land and wide open country.  It's a little out-of-the-way spot that many Maui people don't even know about.  This new gated neighborhood only has a few building lots so you won't have many neighbors.

Go Off-Grid - What a sweet spot to build your off the grid homestead on Maui.  Take a look at the views and the surrounding countryside here at 549 Burns Road, Haiku Maui.

fruit trees: A little shack in the jungle on Maui - that's all I want! - 01/21/17 05:52 PM
I hear it a lot from prospective buyers... I just want a little shack in the jungle on Maui.  Nothing fancy, just a roof over my head.  With some land to grow some veggies, and a few fruit trees.  Maybe a stream would be nice too...

Plantation style home with jungle foliage
Well it's not that easy to find, but be prepared to pay $400,000 or more it you do. They do come on the market from time to time, but I can tell you they won't be this cute and adorable.  Chances are pretty good you'll need to pay with cash due … (13 comments)

10.85 acre fruit tree farm in Haiku Maui for sale - 0 Nahele Rd. - $1,675,000.
Check out this great new vacant land listing on Maui's north shore. Are you ready to be a Maui farmer?  There's so much potential here and most of the hard work has been done. An experienced farmer has improved the soil, planted hundreds of fruit trees in neat rows, and made it easy for you to take over.  Harvest the banana orchard twice a week and sell them downtown, then pick coconuts, citrus, avocados and other fruits in season.  Samoan coconuts and sugar cane are also … (11 comments)

fruit trees: A screaming deal for sale in Haiku Maui - house on 1 acre - 12/03/16 03:11 PM
I just saw screaming deal for sale in Haiku Maui.  It's a small house on 1 acre, with fruit trees in the yard, and lots of privacy.  I can't tell you how many times I've had buyers tell me this is exactly what they're looking for when it comes to making a move to Maui.  Most of the time it doesn't exist, or the price is somewhere in the $700,000's and up.  This house and acre is listed for only $429,000. - you heard it right, $429,000.  Listed by Coldwell Banker Island Properties, and I can represent the buyer.
What's the catch … (11 comments)

fruit trees: My little orange orchard in Huelo, Haiku Maui HI - 03/30/16 12:36 PM
We love to be growing our own oranges in Haiku Maui!
While it's taken some time for the trees to mature, it's been worth the wait of about 20 years.  It wouldn't have taken so long normally, but due to many adverse conditions these trees were slow to grow and produce fruit.  We had to amend the soil and there were a few years when we didn't give them enough attention.  But since some time has passed, the ground is much more fertile and the windbreaks have protected these fruit trees. Now we can enjoy some juicy ripe oranges right off the … (16 comments)

fruit trees: Lush tropical landscape in Haiku Maui HI 96708 - 07/02/15 11:50 AM
Lush tropical landscape in Haiku Maui HI 96708
What a delight to see this Haiku Maui property with so many tropical flowers and plants - orhids, bromeliads, anthuriums, gingers, palm trees, bamboos and more.  It's amazing how much variety you can grow on just 2 acres.  The warm humid climate in Haiku is very conducive to the lush growth of all manner of plants.  Some love the shade and others love full sunlight, so try a bit of both.
As a Realtor on the North Shore I can see and appreciate a lot of properties with landscapes like this for sale.  A … (4 comments)

April Showers Bring May Flowers - getting some rain in Haiku Maui this week
After a very dry April here in Haiku Maui, we're finally getting some real rain.  I don't mean just a quarter inch overnight, I'm taking about 4 inches overnight!  On top of a couple of inches the day before, that's enough to add thousands of gallons to the water tank and keep the gardens happy.
We count on the rainfall to fill our water catchment systems, and we need the rain to make everything green, so we really appreciate this bounty from the heavens. … (7 comments)
