Social Media Buttons and Icons - Is Someone Pushing Your Buttons?

During these past few weeks, since adding the "Signature" option to ActiveRain posts, I've received so many requests, calls, and emails regarding how to add "Social Media Buttons and Icons" to the footers of Blog Posts.  You've probably seen many of the various types and styles other members are using on their Blogs which poses the question, "Where Are They Getting These?"  Here's some sites I've found that offer you these custom buttons for FREE.  This includes for personal and commercial use according to their terms and guidelines.

Here are some Links to Literally Thousands of Buttons and Icons:

Instructions For Adding Buttons and Icons to the Signature or Footer of Posts:

Once you've downloaded the Social Media Buttons or Icons of your choice, you can add them to your AR Signature Page (including the appropriate links) by going to your "My Home" page on AR, then select the "Settings" link on the left hand sidebar.  Just upload the button or icon into the "Signature" section of the page, add the appropriate link to your image, then click "update" to save. That's it!

One tip I would suggest is to be careful which Icons you select for some of the Social Networking Sites. If the Icon or Button isn't a familiar looking one, then visitors might be less likely to click on it.  For example, the cow face, what Social Network or site does that one belong to?  Maybe visitors would click on it just to find out? (LOL~)  With all these Buttons and Icon styles available, one thing for certain is that your signature can be unique.  So have FUN!!

This should give you plenty of options and creative ways to stand out from the rest of the crowd. :-)

Brad - Thanks for this post! I was wondering a) where people were getting the buttons and b) how they were posting the dang things!  Superman that you are, you've answered both of my questions! :)

I think these buttons are really cool looking.  That said though, I am fairly careful about who I add to some of my social networks as each of them serves a unique purpose for me.  I am nut certain that I want to put open invitations to join up in my public blogs just yet.

Renee Burrows has some really cool buttons.

Brad have the programmers fixed the abiltiy to add our signatures to only OUR new posts.

As you know some of us have  been using signatures or footers for a while. So when we add the new one on the old posts it looks Ridiculous.

Let me know.

Candace - thanks for the Reblog, and the nice commentary! (Big Smile)

Hey Brian - I did include a link to your post, and also featured it. Nice job on the "raindrops!" :-))

Missy - the only way to do that would be to add them to each post, the signature section currently applies to ALL posts.
I'm not aware that the programmers will be making any changes at this point.  I'll look into it for you though.

7:07pm • #22

Brad - I don't yet have any buttons, icons etc. so your post will come in very handy once I redesign my site in the near future.

4:06pm • #71

Thanks for all comments everyone, sorry I haven't responded sooner, I've been dealing with some "pushed buttons" in some other areas.

Gregory - you can right click on most of the images available and just save them to your hard drive, or you can download entire sets depending on which site you are on.  Then, just upload the image as you would a photo or graphic, and place a link (URL) to your appropriate Social Network profile, website, or page.  I'm here to help if you need it. :-)

I'm going to go over and change my buttons (to be pushed) shortly...

I just received this really nice email from Carol with her permission to post it here.
This is so true, I think she should write a post about it. Thanks Carol.

First email:

"Brad,
I hope you can help. We bookmarked your blog on icons - great blog! In fact, we're using the raindrop icons in our signature (well, trying!). I've been trying for the past 2 hours to get the icons in a place where they don't capture the link of the previous icon. We're not happy with the layout and I don't know how to change it without messing it up. We would like them all in a row, and, when I do that all my links change. I've tried spacing them out more and it doesn't do any good.
If you check out our blog, you'll see what I mean. We're not happy at all with the layout.
Any suggestions? Oh, and this has nothing to do with the type of icons. I went through this for hours the first time as well.
Thanks for your help."

Second email:

"Brad,

I was just emailing you from your site.  Thank you so much for your phone call.  That was so easy!  I can’t believe I spent 2 hrs today on top of 2-3 hrs last week trying to get this to work.  I never thought of using the ‘spacebar’…duh!  Sometimes we spend way too much time thinking things must be difficult that we forget the obvious that would make it so much easier (hmmm….sounds like a blog!)

Thanks again for all your help,"

Hi Brad I guess I am wondering if these button even get clicked...what do your analitics tell you? I would think the value would be much greater to have people visit your website than your social network accounts.

I am sure there are people trying them right now because they are new but I just can't see a consumer clicking them regularly. Just my opinion:)

7:32am • #93

Bill - you make a great point and that may very well be.  However, I was getting so many requests for where to get these and how to do this, that creating a post to be able to send as a link to others will save me tons of time trying to explain it over and over again in the future.

I agree that having those buttons go to your website, outside blog, IDX, and other value added sites might get more hits and bring more value than the social networking sites.  Only time and testing will tell.  I'll keep an eye on my analytics to see how many clicks they are getting on my blog posts.  I think I am getting more reblogs, retweets, and FB shares right now than anything else.
