This morning I got a bit of advice from my buddy and fellow Rainer, Lynda Eisenmann.  So far, I don't think there's been any advice I have not heeded from Lynda (with the possible exception of whether another Martini was appropriate---but that's another story) that has not proved to be right on target.  Today, Lynda suggested I do a search in AR to see blogs where my name had been mentioned.  I was embarrassed to find there were many posts by many old friends and some new friends that I had never seen.  Oh my, it was daunting to realize that so many had complimented me and I hadn't given them my thanks.

Well, that did it.  I've been meaning to sign up for Google Alerts, so today I did it.  Wow it was certainly a good thing I put it off because the process was quite lengthy.  It took all of 10 seconds!  So, if I may offer a word of advice, if you haven't done so yet sign up for  Google Alerts so you can give immediate thanks instead of apologies for not acknowledging those who honor you in their posts.  Missy Caulk wrote an article in May that gives you step by step instructions if you need them.

Today it truly felt like Christmas in July, opening one beautifully wrapped gift after another from my friends in AR  Here's part of what I saw in my search.  It's an example of the wonderful friendships that have been planted, nurtured, nourished, and continue to grow here in the Rain:

Sally - It was such a lovely thing to "discover" so many places where people had given me an atta girl.  It just stands to reason there are others who would really appreciate or really need to know that what they're doing here in AR is valued.

Hey martini girl,

Wow, what a nice thank you to all! Thanks so much for the nice mention and don't give away too many of our martini stories!

Marlene - what a nice post and what great company you keep :-) Not sure why I havent' been over sooner! Lynda invited me to AR but I don't have any martini stories (now Margarita stories - that's different0

Lynda - Many of our Martini secrets are jealously guarded.  Water torture may work, but I doubt it!

Cyndee - Glad you enjoyed the post.  Lynda is such a great gal.  And yes, there are also Margarita stories that are only known by a very privileged few.  I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you!  LOL

Marlene...

I think it may have been Betsy Talbot that told me about Google Alerts.

The only draw back I have found so far is that there are a lot of "lovely wives" in Cyberspace.

Jeff Turner told me that the rest of the "lovely wives" are imposter's. LOL.

Okay...Cocktail time :)

P.S. You may want to run the same search using the AR search button on 'blogs' and 'blog comments' :)

TLW - JT is right.  As Kaye Thomas would say - You're The Real Deal.  Thanks for the tip on the blog comments.  I intend to get to those as well.  I was overwhelmed with how many places my articles or my name had been mentioned.  Even by people that I don't think have ever commented on anything I've written.  Just tells us how big and wide this AR community really is.  And, yes, it is cocktail time.  I look forward to meeting you one day instead of BB & TLW on a stick.  You would have had a wonderful time in Long Beach if you had been there in person and not just in spirit.  BTW I am the keeper of the Charlie's Angels photo.  I'm saving it for ammo, collateral, or a bargaining chip...One never knows when one will need that sort of thing.

Thanks for the mention of me mentioning you... ActiveRain has a new search today so search your name. It's not a perfect search but it is a lot better than what we have been using in the interim and I would have thought I should have known about this mention long ago searching so I wonder if this search is superior to the search we had two searches ago.

Google Alerts are hit and miss.  You need to search your name for mentions in members only posts on ActiveRain too. Google is never going to let you know about those!

Maureen - Thanks for the tip on the new AR search.  I sure didn't like using the one we had while they were working on the AR one.  Thans too for the tip about Google and that it doesn't pick up on Member's Only posts.  Very interesting.

Marlene,

Good for you!  It must be very rewarding to read what your fellow Rainers think of your work.

I wanted to share my experience after reading your post:  I signed up for Google Alerts and then did a quick Active Rain search for my name.  Guess what?!  After only being an Active Rain member for a few months, I was mentioned by Marti Garaughty!  Thanks for sharing this tip with me.  It's a great feeling to know people are reading my posts and reacting to them.

Bob - That's one of the great benefits of the Active Rain phenomenon.  Unlik just posting out there in cyberspace wondering if anyone is reading what you're writing, we are getting constant reinforcement that our efforts are not for naugjt.  So glad to hear you signed up for Google Alerts.  They're very cool.  And how glad I am that you received a mention from Marti.  That had to feel pretty fantastic.  A belted welcome to AR.  So glad my post was of value to you.
