What's It?

What's It? We saw this along side the road. Remember we were in West Central FL.

Road trips always find interesting things if you just look.

It'sn that hard! I got it right before Brenda went across the road to read the signs.

I can't say I've ever seen one before or ever except to see one again.

I believe it was built by FL's first Governor on his plantation.

So what is it?

Look closely at those rollers.

The power house and all those gears are just to turn those rollers.

Remember this is FL.

It's a sugar cain cushier.

A strange sight for people from sugar beet country.

Bill - thanks for sharing this, I thought it might have some Spanish history but it appears not. Great pictures.

Bill - I believe at the time this was built the sugar cane was grown locally in Florida. There is still agriculture in the state.

Hi Bill,

Well it definitely looks like a crusher for something. Orange Juice,? LOL. Sugarcane did not come to mind. On 2nd thought, it couldn't be for orange juice  because what would come out would be bitter, considering all the skin would be crushed as well. Good try but no cigar, LOL.

That is pretty cool...  I can see that it should be able to do that job.  What was the power source.

Lane,

The stone thing is a steam boiler. Look closely at the end shot.
