You sense a great kid oriented portion of the celebration over the Houlton Maine 4th of July with 4H shows for animals, art, cooking, lawn mower races, pig scrambles, alligator exhibits, pie eating, sack races, egg toss and a slew of Midway rides to go with all the games of skill.
But antique car shows, the demolition derby, pleasure /draft horse shows, antique farm tractors, karoake, musical acts, beano, cash cube, baked bean contests, concerts will make other 
members of the family want to be at Community Park in Houton Maine over the 4th of July.
The big parade with free Houlton Farms Dairy ice cream or lemonade some years, Andy's IGA free watermelon lasts two hours. That gives you an idea of the length, time put in to this celebration along with the largest first works north of Portland ME year after year.
Hats off to the Houlton Fair ME committee that works year round to make the next event bigger and better than ever.
