Facebook Tabs too wide?

By
Education & Training with Tech and Social Media Consultant

There’s a little hysteria starting out there as more and more people hear about Facebook Page Tabs becoming narrow.  For more info see: Narrow Tab width will also bring in your avatar!

Here’s how to see if there is cause for concern.

First of all, you MUST be an admin of your page and logged in to Facebook.  Now go to that page and look at the custom tab(s) you have.  The tab will render somewhat (520 pixel width canvas) as it will after the big change.  Only you (the admin) can see it in this way and everyone else will still be seeing the full 760 pixel width version.

So, how’s it look? In the case of your needing adjustment you’ll find the far right side, (around 250 pixels worth) missing.  How big is 250 pixels?

Exactly this big 250

However, if everything looks ok, you have nothing to worry about.  When the change happens you’ll still look FAB!

Confused?  Here’s 2 tabs from a client of mine.  The first one looks great.  You can see the entire width of the header image.

Good looking Facebook Tab

Not so great with this tab…

If you need help fixing your now too wide tabs I’m available, just drop me a line.

BTW: If you have a tab that is created by an application (example: The Real Estate Tab from Roost) it’s going to be different.  For right now it will show to you as being too wide.

Roost

The application styled tabs are managed and created by the application developers which means there’s not much you can do to fix it.  In the case of Roost, they are on the ball and tell me that rest assured, when the change happens all the Roost Tabs will look great!

I came looking for you because of the Roost question.  I know you said before they're on top of it, but it seems like they're running out of time...  Thanks for the update.

Just reminds me that you can either spend time fixing your website (and in the process time is often money) or you can pay someone to fix it. It is always nice to have someone you are confident of to fix it at a fair price.

Margaret - Actually Roost isn't running out of time, the have it all handled.  For the time being this "preview" of Facebook is messing up the way YOU see the app - that's all.

Barb - Boxes on pages are something most people do not use.  When you add a new app it often also added a box within the boxes tab.  Since we didn't use - it's not going to make much of a difference.

Lori - Awesome!  Thanks.

Thanks Mike!  We're all over this one.  It's affecting both our individual users of the Roost Toolkit as well as our broker clients and we will have the resizing all set for everyone before FB cuts over.
