Half Million Points ...a True Group Effort!

  Gail's Balloons

Today I found these  balloons and the comment below from my friend Gail Harris  on  Thirty Posts In Thirty Days Has Been a Good Challenge  "Sometimes we don't see the forest for the trees, so to speak.  I thought I commented on this post of yours, Margaret. Where am I?  Hmmm, no where close to 22 listings and 10 settlements, and probably not in my lifetime!  Yet you still have time to blog on posts, email and telephone so many of us.  I feel exceptionally lucky.  CONGRATULATIONS TO MARGARET FOR GOING OVER THE 500,000 MARK... YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"  Gail

Thank you for my balloons and for all your support and encouragement. This accomplishment was not done alone. This is the accumulation of a lot of posts, a lot of comments, a lot of  good people sharing and supporting each other, those that I have invited who took the challenge of becoming better in the real estate business. We have all learned from each other. I have learned from the"older than dirt"seasoned agents, the brokers, from the newbies, from the stagers, from the lenders, from the marketing gurus, from the inspectors, from the entire AR membership staff and so many more.

I have been encouraged by Gail and her struggles, her tears over points I am a Colon Cancer Survivor - and here I am worried about.... ,  her determination, her integrity, her wonderful way of questioning and always doing the RIGHT (not the Rome) thing, by thinking of others before the deal!!

Since almost the beginning of ActiveRain (I was number 845) there is no way to mention all the members that I have spoken with, gotten to know through their written words, commented on, actually met at gatherings. You know who you are and I don't dare start to list you because of who I might leave out.

Half a million points is a true group effort!

I'm a son of English Professors.

I've got wicked writer's block.

The idea of writing daily posts and reading and commentating drives me to horrific episodes of dizzying complacency.

I just don't think I can do it.

And further, I haven't heard of direct results, i.e. 100 blogs = 1 sale.

I was told ActiveRain was dead...especially since you had to pay for the kind of coverage that would get you noticed by potential consumers.

I know, I'm a naysayer. But let's just say SOMEHOW I was to get motivated to write a blog consistently, and direct it to a niche. There is SO much information (too much) out there and you're saying the ONLY way to get in front of that searching home buyer is to rack up points, be the top blogger, so that your name will apear first on a search list?

So really, this new real estate world favors those who are writers? Those of us who are ADHD gifted and got into real estate because it favored our need for spontaneity and creativity, our love of gab and meeting people, and our disdain for paperwork and behind-the-desk cubicle 9 to 5, are now being replaced with those able to sit, focus, and write-daily?

Well, I believe people are accessing information, researching, and looking on-line, yes. I believe they interview us anonymously by reading our posts and viewing our bios and web presence, yes. But, I also know, regardless of all this, most of the local buyers rely on who they know and recognize, and through direct referrals.

Please, help me understand.

Are we at the publish or perish point? Need I sit at my computer everyday for hours up-dating my FaceBook page, Twittering about the weather and its affect on our local real estate market, wishing people Happy Birthday on Plaxo, Linking In with people I know nothing about on LinkedIn, answering surfer's questions on Trulia, Twello, and entertaining the constant sexual advances from Lacey Underall on MySpace?

Ugh!

By the way, CONGRATULATIONS on acheiving 500K points. I hope you'll give me the skinny on what benfits it has given you transactionally.

I am right behind you.  I joined in 2006, but never really got rolling with it until 2009.  It is now my best marketing tool.

Carrie, It is a nice number.

Gene, Glad to see you. I wll go check out you posts.

Fulton In Charlotte, You say you have writer's block but you can't prove it by this lengthy comment. Do you really want me to help you understand? Why not write a blog and ask  192,894 members. Well maybe I will take your comment and write another post. Does not appear that you are a member, so I cannot respond or call you directly.
