HOME SWEET HOME......nothing like it

Well, the other day I was being thankful and I became aware of my residence, the place where I live. I looked around the place and liked it. I then wondered how many others liked their homes. I thought I would share about mine

I live on the side of a mountain that opens up to a natural wildlife corridor. I have views of the mountains, trees and skies with beautiful sunsets. The house is 50 years old and was custom built. It has an unusual amount of windows on all sides of it. There are more windows than walls.

In the front of the house are big, mature beautiful trees that tower over everything that include Palms too. I also have a large covered porch that overlooks the views and serves me rain or shine.

No home would be complete without a BBQ and I have a huge 50 gallon drum converted job that smokes and grills. I BBQ nearly everyday. I put things on there that Cave-men would be proud to eat.

On the other side of my mountain, is a full blown blossoming City. In it are all things you would want like shopping, eateries. and movie theaters. Currently, riverside is spending money on itself and creating some nice dynamics for its future.

A nice state of the art community Park is going in just seconds away from my haven of rest. It will host community activities, families and kids playing ball. It is a good addition to the area and I have to pass it up coming and going.

It is very quiet where I live during the day and night. You can hear the trees rustling in the wind, the birds singing their guts out and plenty of wildlife like...possums, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, skunks, squirrels, lizards, snakes, and birds of all kinds and more.

The freeway is just minutes away. I have good neighbors that are happy to see me and I them....We exchange pleasantries and homegrown goodies from time to time.

Living where I live is like being in a vacation home, but close to everything. It just worked out that way. It is also one of the best kept pockets of residence in the City and people are always surprised to find out that there are 30 custom homes snuggled away at the base/side of a mountain.

It is not much in the scheme of things...but this is my home. My place of rest and I like it a lot. It makes me wonder about your home too and...... what you are thinking.....

Richie - I live in the mountains of N. GA and love it.  Although I live in a large community, there is lots of privacy, as the neighborhood has been slow to develop--8,000 acres with less than half developed.  We also have a private 550 acre lake that is pristine.  I'm especially fond of the wildlife.  I regularly have deer in my yard--I give them snacks--and have one that will eat from my hand.  My home is modest and not what I would have built for myself, but it was such a bargain I could not resist.

Now, however, I'm considering moving a bit more into the mountains, seeking more privacy and the features that can only come from a home I build for myself.  We'll see if that happens.

Okay, I want to see a picture of where you live, it sounds fabulous...in Indiana, there are no mountains or water, but the trees are quite pretty this time of year!  lol

I love this post! This feeling should be the goal of every homeowner. In fact, wouldn't it be great if every seller wrote up something like this, why they love their house?

John...how intriguing and delightful. the deer eating from your hands just does it for me.....I don't think we were meant to live in buildings the majority of the time. The environment and all it contains needs to be explored and respected. There is so much out there to experience. John, I find the thought of more privacy attractive and building a little place in a choice area is the way to go......

Cindy...I deliberately left out pictures as I wanted the reader to use their imaginations with some help from my descriptions. A place to lay ones head, wherever it be....this is a good thing.

Richie...this reminds me of how we should sell a house better...the whole imagining living there thing.  Sounds like you have a restive spot to enjoy your surroundings- what views you must have!  I also have my own little eden on a small lot overlooking our wonderful bay & i can see the tee to the golf course which is visible to me...i love the smell of the salt water, the NE wind & the pleasure of walking the beach to step out of myself.  It is always good to be home. thanks

I always ask my sellers to tell me what they enjoyed most about living in the property they are selling.  I pass those stories along to prospective buyers.  It's a great way to personalize the experience of living there--a home is so much more than just a house.

Ginny....I have views...yes. It is like a living portrait because it is never still and always changing. What magnificence! Now, Ginny, one of my other pleasures is salt air. I cannot say enough about it. If feels good, and is good for you. The winds are healthy and clean and for getting out of yourself and into the moment, in rates a 10 if you allow it......Life is good Ginny

Hi Norma....well said and suggested. We have to ask them about the negatives and disclose them....but those positives are there too! Very good point and relevant to all...thank you Norma
