ActiveRain: It is What it Is, So Don't Start Gettin' All Up in Everyone's Business............

As most of you know, I love ActiveRain.

It's such a great expressive outlet for me and thousands of other professionals.

I'm writing this post because it really burns my behind when I sometimes read posts by people who apparently think they are the "rulemakers" or "protocol police" for the site.

I mean, we all now the unwritten rules of courtesy, that's already a given.  And certain groups on AR really want posts to their group to be of a certain theme, and that's cool too.

But when I sometimes see people writing about how this site is not supposed to be about fun or games, or how it's not supposed to be this or that, or what the proper protocol is for commenting and replying, or how it's supposed to be this or that, it really nauseates me.

I really don't understand how some people seem to pull all these rules out of their armpit.

NO ONE needs that.  We ALL have rules, regulations, and protocol in our business and personal lives every day that gives us enough stress, so please be aware of that and try not to add that element to the site.  This is supposed to be a place to DE-STRESS.

It is what it is.  For some people AR is a business medium, for others it's an outlet of self expression, for yet others it's an information resource and so on.

I love the fact that ActiveRain is such a melting pot of personalities, professions, ages, backgrounds and beliefs.

That's what makes it "On The Real" for me.

There's my $.02, and I only have a nickel, so $.03 change back please......

I'm with you on this one Ralph. It has been a great source of learning, fellowship and business all in one. And "rules" are made to be broken.

Ralph, so true. AR is different things to different people. One person's usage is not a violation of another's imaginary rules.

It also sends a negative message to the public when the bickering occurs on posts that aren't restricted to "members only".

Ralph, for me it is all of the above, all but the part about policing... If I don't like something I move on. I love this post by the way, I am suggesting it. A must read for all.

I also suggested.  I love the fun and comraderie here, and the serious stuff is helpful to all.    Most of all, the fun.    I may post a video of fun later, just to set an example.....

Yup, AR is many different things to many different people.  Sometimes it's whimsical, sometimes it's about business, some posts are great and some are pretty dull, but they all contibute to this amazing platform that we have at our disposal.

I'm happy to give you your .03 change, Ralph! Perhaps we'd all be better off if we police ourselves instead of others. I love the wide diversity of posts here, and when I don't like something, I simply move on. Another "suggest."

Hi Ralph... I agree that ActiveRain can be a lot of fun, but I never lose awareness of why I am here.  It makes my phone ring with prospective clients.  There may not be hard or extensive rules about content, but there is a charter for what AR is about... there is a reason that this community has a real estate focus.  What I have seen many people have issues with is content that is unprofessional and/or inappropriate, not "unfun"... and those who have issues with fun or want rigid protocols about commenting, responding or breathing need to lighten up.

Not that I enjoy constant bickering, but I enjoy the occasional flare ups (flames) that come across the boards. On the whole, most of us are civilized. AR has a very good mix.

I know exactly what you are referring to....and I'm on your side. I do not spend my time with:

Tom: thanks for the comment
Jane: I agree
Harry: Yep....thanks for stopping by

Nothing wrong with doing that...but I like to interact on my posts and not every single comment needs a unique reply. I'm not trying to be rude, but I am trying to make the post a dialogue and a conversation. I'm going to continue that way too.

I usually ignore the pseudo ActiveRain police. They usually are just jealous of somebody or something.

I like to have fun with my posts, which is why I have so many series that I work on. Of course, I do my required share of home inspection posts, too.

Hi Ralph, if people don't like the title of a post, they can just pass on it, they don't even have to hit the delete button.  I don't know what the fuss is about, people take themselves too seriously sometimes I guess.

Ralph I agree and here is my protocol....you must laugh!!!

We can have diverse posts and issues just like our days and our clientele.  I am a professional yes, but more importantly I am a person and this person has a heart and a smile, so my blog platform will usually integrate those qualities.  I blog for business and post those blogs publicly, if it is something humorous or off topic that is what the Members Only category is for.  If people dont like the blogs, dont comment, move on please.....next!

I just move on if there are comments that are negative or controlling. It is interesting to read so many points of view and ways of communicating.

I seem to miss the cat fights around here, but I do know what you're talking about. I've made a few goofs myself here on AR, especially when I first showed up a couple of years ago. No I didn't study all the guidelines and fine print about a particular group. I was just naive, wanted to participate, and jumped in. Yep, I got scolded for not following the rules and staying inside the box. Thank you very much, I left the group.

I agree, our lives are filled with rules and regulations with more coming our way everyday. As a community you learn through experience. I don't care what the directions say, you're going to get out of it what you put into it. There's always going to be as many opinions in the room as there are people. So, I say enjoy that. No one has to be made wrong. Just share your thoughts.

It's not conversation or discussion when you jump on your bully pulpit and point an accusing finger at someone and zap them with a negative in public. I used to get worked up about it, but now I just laugh at the accuser. Like the old story, when you point at someone, how many fingers are pointing back at you?

But like Glenn says, an occasional FLARE UP, is entertaining... Good post, I agree.
