Have you changed your facebook profile to the cartoon character of your childhood yet? Did you have a trip down memory lane looking for the one that fit you best. Did you type into Google "70's cartoon characters" like I did? It is one of the more successful campaigns making the rounds on facebook. But will it change anything? The campaign is around ending child abuse.
This week, heck the last few weeks have given an amazing array of donation opportunities.
It began with the Operation Shoebox; I prepared two for boys aged 11-14. I felt pretty good until I got to the drop off location and saw a woman emptying her trunk with about 20 shoe boxes! Great heart she had.
Next was an opportunity to help Riley Children's Hospital (think of the Kenya to Indy post)...Riley is one of the best Children's Hospitals in the country. My daughter's roommate is running for Miss Indiana/Miss USA so this was to help her. Easy money to give away.
But, the Facebook challenge wasn't in changing my profile; it was in caring enough about child abuse to
do something about it. I researched the various child abuse sites and finally settled on the one in Indiana. Note: Donation occurred on 12/4/10
I figured starting in my own State was a good way to begin. My current status on FB is encouraging others to help stop child abuse by also donating. If you have changed your FB Picture, please give to help end child abuse.
So my Pay it Forward is in giving $$ to help those less fortunate, those trying to reach a goal and those in need. It pales in comparison to what people do with their time, energy and hands. I am very aware of this and want to change...move out of my comfort zone. Time....
