Are Men Really From Mars?

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

women from venus men from marsYou know that book Women Are From Venus and Men Are From Mars? The author of that book, btw, John Gray, looks very similar to that creepy guy who was once married to Bree Vandercamp on Desperate Housewives. But with that aside, the Women-Venus, Men-Mars thing has practically become a household phrase, and John Gray has probably made a boatload of money for himself with that catchy term.

He was in the right place at the right time. I remember when his book came out, and some feminists at the time didn't agree with Gray's premise because they somehow thought he was undermining the mission. Although Gray never really indicated one sex was superior to the other, just that they were different. If you really need another example, though, I'm gonna share one with you.

Remember my neighbor who could not sell her home in Land Park because she has 3 kitchens? She has since moved away and rented it out. The person who is renting it turns out to be the buyer of a home I sold several years ago in South Land Park. I represented the seller, not him. See, this is really a small world, especially in Sacramento.

He came over yesterday to ask if he could use our phone. Seems he needed to call the property manager because his dog managed to get him locked out of the house. Or, at least that was his story, and he was sticking to it. It was raining, and my husband answered the door. My husband asked our neighbor if he needed a jacket. "No, I'm fine; it's not that cold," he said. "I'll go wait in my back yard." And he left. My husband closed the door.

I overheard this exchange, grabbed my cell and ran out in the rain after him. He was indeed standing in his back yard in the rain. I had to drag him back to my house.

I do believe there are differences, and this is a great example. Your husband obviously didn't see anything wrong with standing in the backyard.

Elizabeth - we may not be from Mars, but it is for sure that our brains are wired differently!

None of this suprises me. Men really are different. Men think differently. I'm sure your husband was thinking if the guy wanted to come in out of the rain he would have asked. We are just the nuturers.

Who doesn't invite the guy in? When I got back to the house with my neighbor, I found my husband thumbing through the Yellow Pages trying to find the phone number of the property manager. Who uses the Yellow Pages?

Thank goodness for the Venuses of the world.  Poor guy.  I can't believe your husband didn't invite him in either.  Perhaps if it had been a damsel in distress, he would have insisted.  That whole protective male vibe might have kicked in.  But with just another dude...who cares.

LMAO!!!  Not sure what was funnier, your post or the comments.  Ok, seriously now.  First you and your hubby sound like me and my hubby, although I will say hubby has learned to google phone numbers (we don't even have one those yellow books).  Secondly, I think I'm a little confused on the relationship and his status.  He bought one of your listings a few years ago but is now renting the house next door?

Elizabeth - I just read your disclaimer in the very small print at the bottom of your post. It could blow up, explode or vanish. Now that is a great way to find out if anyone is reading it!

Hey Donne, you asked: Secondly, I think I'm a little confused on the relationship and his status.  He bought one of your listings a few years ago but is now renting the house next door?

What do you think happened, LOL? You know the market in Sacramento -- same as your area.

Hey Cynthia -- Well, in the interest of appeasing the disclosure police, I just wanted to make sure I covered all of my bases.

Yes Elizabeth - Men really are from Mars and women are from Venus.  I'm shocked that you even wonder about that.

One of lifes little treasures in bumping into people you have had past connection with, only to have the relationship take new form.   When my mother passed away in the 1970s, their was a fantastic guy that bought her apartments from the estate.   After he paid off the note, I didn't hear from him for awhile.  When my kids started to take Regional Transit to St. Francis High School, they formed an attachment to the bus driver.  They kept talking about George, who would wait a few minutes at their stop, just to make certain they weren't late to school.  They loved this driver.  Finally one day in the midst of a rainstorm, I drove down to the bus stop to pick up the kids so they wouldn't need to walk home in the rain.  When the bus pulled up, my kids introduced me to George.  George was the same guy that had bought my mother's apartments.

A few more years went by, and I walked into my real estate office one morning, to find George sitting at the desk next to mine.  He had managed to get a real estate license, and placed it with my broker, without knowing I worked there.  The irony is that the apartments, the bus route, and this particular office were many miles apart.  George became like a wonderful brother to me.  I have learned when there are repeated themes in life, you need to pay attention, because lessons are about to be learned.  And providing shelter during rainstorms, is part of that.

This is too funny, we are from different planets or at least look at situations differently. Is his dog female or male?
