My wife says that men are lucky, that when the turkey is ready, they are called in to do the honors of cutting it up and are then treated to a sumptuous dinner that magically appears. But, I'm extremely thankful for the dinner and all of the efforts that go into Thanksgiving. So, not only do I thank my wife, for her love, beauty and culinary abilities, but I also thank the turkey.
We are thankful also to reside in this tropical paradise commonly known as Estero Island or Fort Myers Beach, Florida. We've resided here since 1999, and despite rumors to the contrary, our house is still standing. Seriously, we have traveled extensively throughout this country and have seen many attractive and vibrant communities, but to reside within the only continental tropical zone in the United States is just too cool. By the way, there are houses under $400,000.00 to be had, but not many. So, anyone who wishes to experience this tropical island lifestyle should take advantage of the current Buyer's market.
We are thankful for good health and good weather. We are thankful for good friends and good times. We are thankful to be strong enough to weather the bad times.
We are especially thankful for our best friend, our Rhodesian Ridgeback, Red, my faithful assistant. It's well known that people sometimes use their pooches to meet members of the opposite sex. They also come in handy for conversation starters with prospective clients. Red keeps us from becoming lazy by making us walk and run with her several times a day. She keeps us from becoming cold at night when the dreaded "cool fronts' blow into town by cuddling her 100 pound warm bulk against us in bed. Red is especially thankful, too, at Thanksgiving. She is treated to turkey for days on end and is most appreciative. In fact, I suspect that on those hot, humid, sultry summer afternoons, while snoozing on the bed beneath the ceiling fan, Red is dreaming of Thanksgiving and thanking the turkey for all of the wonderful memories.
