Would you let your kids do this?

Would you let your kids do this?

We've been putting off working on our foyer for a long time. Too long, in fact.

We had the wall covered with some Christmas wrapping paper over the winter, just to give it some kind of festive feeling, rather than the "we just tore off the wall paper and didn't finish the work" look. I'm sure you understand.

Anyway, the kids took down the wrapping paper (which, oddly enough, was a great background for some cool Holiday pictures) and asked it they could paint the wall.

At first the answer was "Absolutely not!", until we thought about it. We're not ready to finish the project, so what could it hurt?

Here's a couple of pictures of them painting the wall for us.

Have a great day!

Would you let your kids do this?

Probably would let them do that...but it would make my desire to get it done higher!

Eric....all it will take is a can [or 2] of Kilz when you are ready to do the job.  At least your girls are painting the wall and very neatly I might add; some others wold have tried to engage the beautiful wooden stairway and / or trim.  The pictures are fun and "keepers"
Have a great week.

As kids we used crayons on the unfinished knotty pine paneling in the basement and it was NOT appreciated by our parents. However we did not ask prior to starting to draw the "murals."

Take photos of their artwork for posterity. I would probably not be that cool a parent.  I like the Christmas wrapping paper idea.

I found this post because it is featured on 'Not Necessarily Real Estate News' a Paper.li of people I follow in the real estate industry, thanks for the fun post.

hahaha @ Maureen - at least your girls asked.  I like the idea and I wish I would have allowed my kids to do that in between jobs :)

CIndy, I think I'll let them keep updating it so I don't have to finish the project.

Barb, thanks. Kilz works wonders.

Dale, thanks. I'm proud of them.

Maureen, for some reason they knew to ask permission. They're good kids. Wow, that's a cool place to be found!

Renee, I don't think I'd let them do whole rooms.

I've gotta say there is NO way I would have let my children do any such thing!!!  Man, oh, man, was I ever uptight!  I think this is wonderful and they're making some great memories.  Now about my suggestions for getting your home ready to sell . . .  LOL!

Tish, you don't think "Custom Murals" will get me an extra 10-15 Grand?

If I knew in a few months that I was going to be updating or taking a wall out, then why the heck not?

Eric, I had a seller who is a pretty well-known artist in DC, and he had murals all over his walls.  It was impossible to convince him that a coat of Benjamin Moore Number Ten would increase the value of his house.

Now that is too cool :)!  And if you are going to cover it up anyway, no problem letting the kids have their creative way!  I bet they had lots of fun :)!

Eric, it sounds like Barb & Sal has had experience with this and quite honestly a gallon of Kilz also came to my mind.

Eric, it looks like your kids are having a blast playing artist.  I'm with Tish.  I'm not sure I would have let my kids do this, unless I knew for sure we'd be painting that week.  I must however say that I've mellowed somwhat and will let my grandkids do what I wouldn't let my kids do.  I have a friend who left one wall of her kitchen be the "art" wall for her grandkids and each one gets a spot to paint as they wish with either a picture or message for "grandma"  - though she restricts them to using only markers that match her kitchen decor.

Leah, I'm not sure when I'm gonna get to it, to be honest.

Sussie, I'd paint pictures, but I'm not too excited about doing the actual remodel.

I like it, and I didn’t even get to see the wall paper, but I’ll always like the work of children like that because it makes them feel like they are a part of everything.

Russel, as a parent, I feel that I need to let them have some fun like this and be a part of everything. Not too strict (though my wife would argue that), not too lenient.
