C A U T I O N !!!  TRAFFIC ALERT ON SR400

highway imageStarting at 8:00 pm on Friday, June 24 and continuing until 5:00 am on Monday, June 27, 2011 Metro Atlanta Buy Lease Sell ALERTS BIG CHANGES 400 news from Buckhead Atlanta GA.  The Georgia State Road & Toll Authority will be updating the technical equipment at the toll booths.

CruiseCard lanes will be C L O S E D during that time.  According to the spokesperson from the SRTA - if you have a CruiseCard on your windshield, you may drive through the regular lanes and the toll will be deducted from your deposit at the State Toll Road Authority. You will still have to sit in the traffic but you would not need to pay the $0.50 toll in coins. (Please have some quarters ready or go to an attended lane in case the information I received is incorrect.)

green question markCruiseCard usage information about the weekend closure may be obtained at 404-893-6161, option 3 (888-760-6016).  The customer service operators have been trained to answer questions about the traffic disruption that inevitably will occur with lane closures.

Why is this taking place?  The closure is to allow transition from the CruiseCard technology on SR 400 to the required technology for the new PeachPass system.  The video below discusses the transition.

peachpass drawingUsing the PeachPass, the state will begin charging for the use of certain I-85 HOV lanes in late August or early September. Those toll lanes will begin in DeKalb County at the Chamblee-Tucker exit on I-85 heading North until the Old Peachtree exit in Gwinnett County.  Heading South, the toll lanes begin at the Gwinnett county Old Peachtree exit and end at the DeKalb County Chamblee-Tucker exit.

CruiseCard holders will NOT have to change transponders to use the PeachPass lanes once they are activated in fall 2011.  The work being done in June will handle that transition.  The CruiseCard will function as a PeachPass as well.

More posts to deal with the transition in the future but for now - check out the information video below.

Have a happy day -
Lynn
