Crazy Cardboard Boat Regatta at West Chester's VOA Park July 22-23 2011

Are you looking for something COMPLETELY different to go enjoy?  Then head to the Crazy Cardboard Boat Regatta at VOA Park!  There's some real creativity on display here, and it's a gamble as to whether the boats will actually make it to the finish line!  Will the Captain go down with the ship?  No!  The safety crews are on scene to "bail out" anyone having trouble!

This will be the 2nd annual Crazy Cardboard Boat Regatta, and they're expecting plenty of competition.  Boats have to negotiate a 200 yard course on the VOA Park's 35 acre lake on the north side of VOA Park.

With two categories, "Need for Speed" and "Show Boats", the judging can be fair to each type of boat.  And you're going to witness some pretty elaborate work too!

Awards will be given for Fastest Finish Time, People's Choice, and the Titanic Award for best sinking....and there WILL be sinking!

The event will include a children's area with games and activities. 

The event spans two days, open Friday July 22nd from 5 - 10 p.m. for judging of the boats and a few other fun activities.

Then on Saturday July 23rd the boats get down to business!  The activities start at 11 a.m., with racing from noon to 3 p.m.  Admission to the event itself is free, but you'll need a Butler County Parks Motor Vehicle Permit.  For non-Butler County residents, that's $10/annual pass or $5/day.  You can purchase at the park.

And it's NOT too late to enter!  Entries are being accepted at metroparksofbutlercounty.org until the day of the event.  Registration forms, rules, boat building instructions and more are available at the website.  You can also call 513.867.5835 for further details.

Don, Definitely along the same lines, but I think your idea probably has more buoyancy assuming they're sealed cartons?
