25 Comments on Fun Time at the 2011 Del Mar Races in Del Mar CA
Jeff - Wow three comments and a feature. It must have been the title and topic eh??
Anyway, Del Mar is the very first place that I went to when I was a youngin'. Grandpa's favorite getaway.
How fun!!! Mom and Dad went to our LeBois park a couple of weeks ago and again took my 9 year old niece last night! She was telling me all about it...apparently a number of her picks hit first place.....LOL so according to her....the pink ones win! LOL
Jeff: Racing looks so exciting on TV. I have never been to a horse race. I guess I should go to one because we are loosing our race tracks here in the Bay Area.
can't hardly wait
the best people watching this side of vegas
thanks for the reminder
we'll be in a box on the fifth! daily double!
Del Mar is a beautiful track.....and an occasional outing at a track is an awful lot of fun.
Hi Jeff, thanks for the heads up. My family will be down in Carlsbad next week visiting family and since my wife has never seen the Del Mar track, this just got me thinking we'll stop by.
Ken - I'm not even going to try and figure that one out.
Deborah - LOL. Maybe your little one has a gift!
Evelyn - it's especially fun wtih a group of people. Do it!
Vince - you got that right!
Leslie - so true. I have had great times there, even when NOT watching the horses.
William - I do remember, and I have the photos to prove it.
Bryan - you should. It IS an experience, and a beautiful venue. Then you can hit the beaches.
Jeff
Good times! It's fun to see all the hats. I would love to make opening day.
Jeff, I use to go to the horse races in Maryland, and in Charles Town, WVand always had a great time. I remember the first time I went to a race I won $120.
Jeff.....thanks for the post and the info. Wish I was going to be in Cali at that time!
A buddy (my best man actually) and I used to go to Del Mar all the time many years ago. Made 5 Opening Days in a row and a few times each week. Had lots of free time and hit a few Pick 6 to keep us going back - beer was a lot cheaper too. Saw Shoemaker, Pincay and quite few other great jockeys. Bet the gray horse in the 7th for me.

Go to the races all the time when they are in Hollywood Park. Once I bet on a long shot at 107:1. Ah the thrills and the heartbraks of the tracks. Hope you enjoy them down there.
The race track sure does look like a fun place, expecially with the nice weather and open air stadium.
Elizabeth - some of thenm are pretty amazing from the photos I've seen. How can you even walk with a hat tlike that?
Rebecca - I'm impressed. Did you stop at winning?
Kerissa - some other time, then.
Maya - it gets pretty exciting. So did you win?
Jane - I imagine they get expensive to keep up.
Eileen - it's a beautiful site, and you can smell the ocean - it's less than a quarter mile away.
Jeff
I haven't been to the tracks in over 30 years! Have a wonderful time, I am sure you will!
Jeff- Cool Localism Post. You do such a great job with these. Best of luck and success to you
Hi Jeff! Not only do you live in a gorgeous area but, there are so many fun things to do there also! Love the horse races--wish I were there. And, you should share those photos of you and William--to of my all-time favorites here on AR!
Have a wonderful weekend...
Jeff - I have never been to a horse race, but I think it would be a lot of fun.
