A Living Statue at Palm Harbor Days in Palm Harbor-Florida
The town of Palm Harbor in Pinellas County has several festivals throughout the year that we have been going to for many years. They close off the center of town and give it over to crafters, artists, and other vendors who are lined up and down the middle of the cobblestone roadway. It’s always a pleasant day out and you never know what you will see there.
The statue is a real person with a doll. I wasn't sure what the silver coating is that creates the look but it is very realistic. I had to wonder, of course, being who I am-if it was healthy for her to be covered in whatever it is. I Googled it and found that it is a type of make-up
I’m not sure I could sit in the sun all day and be absolutely still especially in Florida.
Living statues are a long-time tradition in European street theater and the white or metallic make-up can be bought in a bottle or cake and applied with a sponge.
Apparently, costume shops are a good source of the supplies for living statue art including make-up. So if you are considering a new career, go to your local costume supply store and see what kind of statue you would like to be.
What a wonderful shot. I am amazed that she was willing to sit in the scorching sunshine of Florida. I have seen the silvered folks in the Streets of San Francisco. It is quite a show. My first thought was that is a statue, because there is a famous artist in Los Angeles, that has lifelike people in front of buildings and in home landscapes. One of my favorites was a lady in rollers and robe picking up the paper. That brought a grin everytime I drove by it on my way to somewhere. A
Alexandra - I have seen pictures of that lady: she is cute. This was a real person and the picture was taken in May, I think, but I was in shorts and it was quite warm out there. Thanks, I love your stories!
Hi Toni, Love it. I have a photo of one to go along with the more tradtional one in your Video. Instead of Silver, mine is all white. I love all the Huskers. And it is not easy to stand still for the long periods of time that they do. Love this!

Howdy and evening Toni
Toni, what a mighty fine event to have and to attend in the Palm Harbor, Florida area. Folks sure must have a mighty fine attending. I enjoyed your photo and video!
Until you mentioned it, I would have thought she was a statute. I did see lots of human statutes in Italy, especially Florence and a few in Lucerne. I could never do that.... but I give them credit. It's not easy sitting there that long. My bones would be cramped in no time. In Italy, if people stopped to stare, the expectation was for people to give them money. And if you took a picture with them, they almost beat you if yo didn't leave money!
What a beautiful picture and story. I had no idea what that stuff was. I thought it was body paint but after reading your post, it has to be more than regular body paint.

Toni, there was a person with this same make-up doing mime in New Orleans last November too! It is very interesting! Sitting in the sun, wearing all those clothes, and not moving would be very tough!
Toni, These living statutes you incredible! We saw one in Cozumel Mexico. As we were approaching him, I saw his eyes move. He kept jumping out at patrons with his knife in hand. Scared a little boy half to death.
We probably wouldn't see on on the streets of Tucson...at least in the summer-type months! I have seen them on some of the model shows - it takes a special kind of talent! Thanks for sharing the great photos...when I first saw it I thought...OMG, how could a CHILD stand that still...then I read that it was a doll...makes sense!!
