I started showing Jack and Jill homes last fall. I showed them a few homes in Southwest Fort Wayne but nothing quite fit. We took a little break over the holidays and then started looking again in early 2011.
THEN WE FOUND IT!!!!
It was an A frame home on a few acres and they fell in love with it. We wrote the offer in January and then we waited...
And waited...
And frickin waited...
We finally got the home under contract at the end of March. They were so excited and happy that they took me out for some chicken wings! I love chicken wings FYI.
The process was a long and drawn out process and we had to jump through hoop after hoop. We finally got very close to closing this last month but at the very last cotton pickin minute...
The damn thing fell through. I won't get into any details but it was pretty heartbreaking for Jack and Jill.
We regrouped and continued our search. We saw a few more homes but what they were looking for was very unique and these homes didn't quite work.
Then I got the call.
Jill: "Hey Jared. I hate to do this to you, but I think Jack and I are going to buy his Grandma's home. It's the kind of home that we have been looking for and she recently decided to sell it. She gave us first shot before she listed it and if we buy it she doesn't want to have any real estate agents involved.
If we change our mind we will let you know and continue searching with you. We feel so bad because you have worked so hard for us and have done such a great job. We will definitely refer any other home buyers or sellers in Fort Wayne to you. I hope you understand."
Me: (Laughing) "Well hell, at least I got some chicken wings out of the deal!!!!"
We both chuckled and I told her that I totally understand and there are no hard feelings. I told her to keep me posted and if it doesn't work then we will continue to search for the perfect home. I also asked her to give her Grandma our information if she ends up in need of a REALTOR®.
What are your thoughts? Would you have handled it differently?
