Here's My Annual Realtors® Are People Too Speech
With all of the holidays celebrated during the year, it's not until Thanksgiving that I get this overwhelming feeling to let the world know, in case any forgot, that Realtors® are people too.
Of the top of my head, I can think of any profession whereby it's practitioners work as hard as we do. When you think about it, we work 12, 14, 16 hours almost every single day of the year. That's a lot of hours.
Like those not in the real estate profession, we like to do the things that other people do on this holiday and that's spend time with our family and enjoy and bask in their company. We want to put work aside for just one day to free our minds enough to enjoy a designed to give thanks.
While I chose to spend Thanksgiving alone, the single most thing that I am thankful for is my family. But since for so many years, Thanksgiving was such a lonely holiday for me, it is now one in which I look forward to so that I can just let my mind and body rest and revel in all that I have to be thankful for.
It is the one day of the year, that I decidedly keep for my very own self to do as I please. There is no other time of the year that I do this in such a purposeful way.
So I say to the world or more specifically our clients: I think you know how hard we work. I think you know the tremendous amount of hours that we put in to serve your needs.
So on Thanksgiving day, I am asking buyers and sellers to acknowledge that Realtors® are people too. And just like you, we deserve some time away for work. Although I am not a 24/7 real estate agent, I do put in a significant amount of time in what I do.
I'm asking the real estate consumers to give their agents the much need reprieve that they deserve and unless the world is on fire on Thanksgiving Day, let's see if it can wait until Friday.
I notified my clients that my holiday officially starts at 6:00 on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 and I wasn't surprised at all when they understood and recognized that I need this time.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
