I Don't Do Black Friday
Me neither! I did it once & that was enough! I am making turkey soup today. Hopefully it will the pit good.
Hi Brenda, I am contemplating a Costco run. I am not yet sure. I am a little scared -- but, excited at the same time. I don't think I have ever shopped on "Black Friday" either.
Good evening, Barbara. I do not do Black Friday either. There were plenty of idjets out there tho...
I gave up on Black Friday a long time ago. The deals are often better the week after and I don't need another flat panel TV. Good you're staying away from it.
Brenda I have never done the Black Friday thing, and don't plan on ever doing it. To me it is insane to standout in front of a store for the lenght of time that these people are out there for, and no guarantee that you are going to get what you went there for. Nope Not Me.
Hi Brenda,
A couple of years ago, I camped out with my oldest son, Sam, to get Gretchen a computer - saved over $300. We camped from midnight to 6am, although it was folding chairs and a blanket - no tent. He brought his bike; rode it around the parking lot. I timed him on how fast he could do laps to certain landmarks and back. We chatted with the other campers, shared drinks and snacks. At about 4am, Sam and I made a trip to the 24 hour restaurant and brought back to go breakfast for us and a few others.
It was fun and a great memory for Sam and I. Would I want to do it every year - no way - have not done it since but have fond memories of our adventure to get Gretchen's computer. She will be getting a new computer next year. Wonder if the youngest might be up for it?
I did buy the boys a laptop online yesterday - a basic one with an i3 processor for just over $300. Should last them a few years.
Mel
I also don't do Black Friday. There is absolutely nothing that the stores have that I have to have today. Nothing.
I almost NEVER shop the day after Thanksgiving...its a nightmare around here. Enough to make me say "Bah! HUMBUG! for the next month. I'd rather keep the Christmas spirit rather than destroy it.
Brenda, I've been here for 15-16 years. But this year, it's the only year I havent done Black Friday
shopping although I have a list of people to buy for. I guess you call it proscrastination but I'm perfectly fine staying home and laying low. I'm sure perhaps next week when the crowd is back at work, I'd get going again. The older I get, the least I enjoy shopping.
Brenda,
Absolutely agree with you as I see no reason at all to go to malls on Black Friday. The shopping to me on this day is insanity. I never got it either why it is called Black Friday..
Hi Kristin-Hope the soup turned out fabulous!
Hi Aimee-Costco might not be too bad, lol :)!
Hi Michael-No doubt, lol :)!
Hi Bryan-I find it less stressful to just stay home :)!
Hi Mel-Sounds like you have a terrific memory of Black Friday with your kids. That's a nice story.
Hi Eric-Yeah...couldn't figure out anything that was worth the inevitible chaos!
Hi Ruthmarie-Amen...hard to get the Christmas Spirit during Black Friday as people are just too intense that day :)!
Hi Loreena-Shopping doesn't really thrill me too much...I like it sometimes but I am the go get what I want and leave person, not the browse around until I find the best deal person anyway :)!
Hi Robert-Alan May wrote a post about where Black Friday come from..other than that, I didn't get it either :)!
I treat it like the plague. I don't go near store on Black Friday - in fact, I stay away for the entire weekend. I did, however, put up a lot of my Christmas decorations, and my husband and I toasted the Christmas season and listened to Christmas music in the evening.
You and I would get a long great Brenda. :)
From what I'm reading about the event in some areas it was more like Black-Eye Friday. Some of these events are like amateur wrestling matches. No thanks!!
Hi Brenda....black friday is not for me....I like going online and ordering whatever I need, whenever I need it.....there are too many nutties in the stores fighting over junk.
Ugh! Me Neither! Such a mess! I NEEDED to go to Wally World for a few household items, and had forgot it was Black Friday. What a madhouse! I went ahead and got my items (dumb) Then was in line FOREVER. Poor timing on my part. Sheesh!
Hi Debb-I believe we would get along fabulously :)!
Hi Carla-That is the main reason I stay away. Why in the world would one get so worked up about a purchase?! Craziness!
Hi Barbara-I saw your post...you are one smart lady :)!
Hi Cheryl-Oops..what a terrible time to forget it was Black Friday...poor thing :)!
Hi Tatyana-I am with you on that one :)!
@ Andrew - if you want to network great, but that's it. I like that.
@ Jerry - "I'd rather be blogging anyway" - But he can say that about any time and day!
Brenda - I ran out at 10 pm Thursday to Walmart because I had never done it. I say, try everything once and the fun stuff twice! I won't be doing that again. Get my drift!!
Hi Cathy-I did try in ONCE, lol :)! And once turned out to be enough :)! Thanks for droppin in!
