No!! Please Don't Go Out Of Business!!

I hate getting emails like this.  Especially first thing in the morning.  It makes me incredibly sad to learn of another wonderful, family-owned, small business having to close its doors.  Here is a "paraphrased" snippet from the email I just received this morning.  Unfortunately, we're becoming all too familiar with these words:

"Saturday, January 07, 2012

Dear Longtime Customers,

After almost 20 years as one of Chicagoland’s premiere small business retailers, sadly we find that we must bring this leg of our journey to an end ... so it is with a heavy heart that we make this difficult decision, and we appreciate your overwhelming support over the many years."

November 26th, 2011 was "Small Business Saturday."  Perhaps we can help support small businesses by having more than one "Small Business Day" per year?  Better still, perhaps I need to remember to patronize my favorite small businesses more often!  *Sigh*  Well, I learned a valuable lesson today.

Profit from my two decades of experience

Carie-I agree it's a sad time when we see small business close, they do so much for the local economy  keeping more dollars stay here as opposed to leaving the area.

Carie - all the more reason for us to be blogging about small businesses in our community. You have inspired me this morning.

Hi Carie,  Always a sad ending.  More of us need to shop our local stores or risk losing them !

Carie it's been happening in the Phoenix area for way too long.  It's sad to make sure we call ahead anytime we're planning on visiting a small business these days - just to make sure they're still open.  I try to shop local as often as possible.

Anna:  You're so right ... it is terribly sad that you have to call ahead to confirm these days.  But, good for you that you shop local as much as possible.

This is truly a sad note to get especially from clients you have sold a home to.   We just have to hope they find another position to fill the gap.

Carie, I feel like it's my duty to support small businesses. I certainly did back in November. So sad, you've lost another one.

Connie:  You're right!  If we don't support small businesses more -- we may not have many left to support.

I feel the pain you express. I hate to see small businesses go out of business. It is painful and does not help our economy. Here is a better 2012.

It's a sign of the times seeing the empty buildings and store fronts.  So sad.  I always think about the dreams the owner had when they first opened the doors...hopefully they learn something from the experience that they can apply to their next business for a better result.
