22 Comments on "PUFF-BACKS"--THAT'S WHAT I CALL OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA SITES.....Lots of Hot Air That Is Meaningless drivel.
Janis: Thanks---I agree with your assessment of the time spent on those other sites--I get notices from FB and I think "Oh I better go see what is going on there"...then I get there and it is absolutely nothing going on. except for the self-absorbed agents here in the Hamptons, there is no one I want to hear from on that site --or Twitter either!
Norma: I think that is why commenting is down here--I have not been able to sit for any length of time lately much less blog and I miss it!
Paula: If you are meaning Kerrie Greenhalgh from Active Rain... she is such a great asset to AR, and such a great help to all of us. I think that one solution would be going to both the blogroll AND to the posts of our list of Rainers that we have subscribed to. I would think then that we would find quite a bit to comment on.
As far as those other sites are concerned... I am so glad I do not feel the need to "be everywhere."
Carolyn: Thanks for correcting the spelling of Kerrie's name--should have checked it before I published it. I will do that right now....and I agree; I too do not feel the need too be everywhere!
I'm glad to read your post because the fluff and puff of these other sites really annoy me. I appreciate blogging for its substantive content and information. I don't really care what someone ate for dinner or how many Farmville acres they own.
I just see a system that does show favorites! When one side has more opportunities, just the one side plays! I know one thing, 408 blogs 0 features! I guess I'm not what gets featured, sort of one sided?
Paula I do think most of us are beyond busy, like we always used to be and trying to fit in all the other countless sites is just not cutting the mustard. I focus on AR as this is the community with spirit, transparency and so many amazing, smart and dedicated professionals.

Francine: you put it so well! ..and that is what will happen eventually to all the time-wasters out there who think they are applying "brilliance" to the world, when in actuality they are filling a big void---empty time on their hands. So they are basically filling a time slot that will quickly become a big fat nothing because they are too busy to bother! Just think of all those people you have met in your life that were rambling on and on about themselves because they had nothing else to do and because the people who listened had nothing better to do either! Ha! (as Lenn would say!)
Jon:...if you are writing heartfelt, good content about things you are passionate about---those get featured! If I were you, I would pick an absolutely outrageous topic, something that you have a strong opinion about and write about it! Try for a real estate issue that you have had it with, or something in your business that drives you nuts!!! Put it out there and make sure it gets out there at a good time: 7:00Am is good and so is 9:00 at night--try to catch 'em when they are on the site and you will get read and maybe even featured!!! Check the blog roll and notice when all those posts about nothing are running: blah, blah, blah and on and on about things you don't care about--listings for instance...and avoid publishing anything at those times---try to get in the thick of it and comment your brains out because sometimes that's where the best ideas spring forth from...Good luck!
Anna Banana!! Thanks for the feature--you are a doll! I get your heartfelt statement about the lack of time and what you "drop" when you don't have time---that's what I am doing. I get huge numbers of people begging me to connect on LinkedIn and I just don't have the time to log on--go away from my work to connect with someone who says they worked with me when they never did!!! Besides, I love ActiveRain and I am here for the duration!
Paula~ Great advice, I will take it and try and do better! I hope it's ok seeing things differently! I was going over some of the members with very nice ratios??? blog to features.......Something is one sided in their! I won't try and figure why that is I just see it.
The one thing I'm cautious of, earning it! Earning it is important for so many reasons. The biggest; I would NEVER want my blog to take one that's more qualified! The only thing??? Do you see some of the features making it???? Some of the FEATURES I've seen get pushed???; make any blog I've ever seen deserving...IMO only
I want to make it very clear I like the competition and the drive it gives me.....That's the real beauty in it for me, I have gotten so much better blogging and that's what I hold dear and how I feel about my beloved AR...
I think AR is the best space on the web to learn great things about Real Estate and it's perfect to establish great friendships!
It will never be my place and it is not my business to place the features with members, I'm sure it's very difficult and I would hate that job..It's my job getting better and growing in the RAIN....WOW, I really must have needed to get that out or something!
Paula - My posts and comments have been cut back because I am running as fast as I can with real estate. It's all good:)
Paula-I hope you are right. There is way too much quantity in our lives collectively, and not enough quality. Now that the economy is turning, people all across the board are going to have less time on their hands, and will need to get things done, quicker. I also hope AR considers the suggestions of many from Kerrie and RIchards' posts about separating out content more.
I rarely go to Fb unless someone posts to our family group. I do like Google+ and post my AR blogs and spend time on it with AR buds; however, IMHO comments are down on AR because of the platform bugs that do not seem to have been solved over the last few months....
Jon: You are so on target and you need to really be out there with your opinions at the right times--that is crucial! In order to get the right feeback from people you need to be "out there"and comment until you don't think you can write anymore..those ar the things that get attention paid to your good content---and mayba feature too!
Pam; Tha is exactly what I am finding too....so busy right now and hoping it all pays off...
Marie: I do too--that will save so much time for those of us who don't have much! I wad through the posts that have a glimmer of a thread that I am interested in and then I find out it is rather limitied in usable content---nothing to coment about really! Then there are those who put great content out there alot and those are the ones that I pay attention to!
Wallace: Hummm--I like Google Plus too but it seems to be a duplicate for me so if I have time to blog I do it here---I have a problem with copyng post that I wrote here and then pasting them on Google Plus---seems their algorithyms(sp) are set up to punish you for copying and pasting anything and I don't have time to do one blog much less two!!
Paula, My blogging and commenting on ActiveRain and elsewhere has been cut back dramatically due to time constraints. It's a good problem to be productively busy, but a social media community like AR does need consistently good blogs and insightful comments to attract visitors and grow.
Rick; I agree---so lets try to do that! :) I am finding the best time to do it is first thing in the morning and again late at night if I am still up.. I try to get a few comments in but no where near what I used to do! I used to get at least the ten comments we are allowed and many times many more than that. II wonder how AR views this lull?
Preach on! There are just not enough hours in the day to do it all. Those who claim to be on every site everyday must not be that busy in their business. I barely have time for AR these days but feel it important enough to do my best to stay active.
Paula: I agree; there are not eneough hours in the day to get the work done that has to get done...much less chit-chat on FB or Twitter. It appears rght now that those two are more important for the Politicians thatn for us mere mortals!
