Alameda’s infrastructure - underneath it all

Alameda Musuem logoThe Alameda Museum will host “Underneath it All:  Alameda Infrastructure” by Dennis Evanosky and Eric Kos, publishers of the Alameda Sun, on Thursday, March 29 at the Museum at 2324 Alameda Avenue at 7 pm.

Dennis and Eric will speak about Alameda’s infrastructure and “good old days” before the advent of electricity, plumbing, gas to heat our homes, piped water and a professional fire department.  According to Dennis they will ask us to imagine life without these amenities.  We would have had to step outside to the backyard to visit the outhouse or carry candles around the house just to find your way around.  We could imagine how terrifying it must have been when a fire occurred and there was no fire department to put the fire out or fire hydrants nearby.

Dennis and Eric will present a colorful picture of the early days of Alameda’s development and the men who brought these necessities to Alameda.  The duo are always entertaining and have a great way of making history fun and enlightening.

Things to Do in Alameda is all about events for the whole family to enjoy in Alameda.  I write about Things to do in Alameda every Friday, so if you like what you see here, please come back for more or visit me on Facebook.
