America The Beautiful Free Parks For The Military

Yesterday I stopped by the Woodbridge office of the National Park Service to pick up my “America The Beautiful” season pass.  Turns out I was the first person to stop by the local office to get one and hopefully the word will get out about this great opportunity.  In support of our troops the National Park Service is offering a special free pass to use at any park maintained by the NPS for active duty military and their dependents for the next year.

In the Woodbridge area the passes are available at the NPS Regional office in Brook Center off of Old Bridge Road during the week between 9-3.  This coming Saturday between 11-5 the passes will be available at the Occoquan Wildlife Refuge as well.  You must present a valid military ID in order to pick up your pass.  This is a great chance for you to spend time this summer exploring local national parks such as Great Falls, Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge and Prince William Forest Park.

Get out to enjoy our National Parks this summer and remember the special America the Beautiful Pass is free for military families.

Thanks Rob.  The staff at the NPS office and the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge were helpful in getting my America the Beautiful pass all lined up.

Cindy, I would imagine that many do not know about this benefit.  Hope you enjoy the parks and looking forward to the pictures you will share.

Kathy-considering I was the first one to stop by our local national park service office to pick up a pass I'd guess the word hasn't gotten out as it should.

That is a great service to our military, Cindy.  Thanks for posting this.  I'll be sure to pass it on to the folks I know who are active.  Happy Memorial Day.

Mike it's good information to share.  With summer coming it's a great chance for active duty, veterans and families to take a road trip and visit one of our great national parks.

Rob I have had the good fortunate to visit a number of our national parks. Growing up we took summer vacations which included stops in many. As an adult I've taken hiking trips and camping trips in others. Ion my bucket liorcas driving around the country in an RV checking out any I missed.
