ONLY TWO CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENCY?

By

There are multiple qualified people who can run this country and do it well. But, they will not be able to make themselves known without an enormous war chest and powerful support. So whats left? I am watching and listening to both the current well known parties and it all starts to sound the same after a while. What if we don't like either party?

DOING RIGHT TAKES BACK SEAT

Its like an old record or even a re-occurring nightmare. At some point, you wish it would end already. Can you imagine a person who is elected that just wants to do the right thing and proceeds from there? It would shock us all. Right now, every thing being debated is not focused on people's well-being. You can only go so far on this until people start to rebel. That is how civil wars get started

AMERICA SHOULD BELONG TO THE PEOPLE FIRST

We are not talking best man for the job here either. Instead powerful dynamics and factions go to work supporting their agendas and their outcomes. An enormous effort has to be made to disguise the movement as being all American or good for America. A real hard close-up says other wise. Often, who gets elected is not for the people, but for their own agendas

UNEMPLOYMENT...WHOA    WOE

Currently, it takes two incomes to run a household. That is the way it has been for a generation almost. That meant to live the life you want or are accustomed to, two people had to work. Okay, when one wage earner loses their job, their whole system of survival hiccups. If both become unemployed, this is a death sentence carried out slowly

PEOPLE NEED FOOD, SHELTER AND PEACE TO ENJOY THEM

The last thing that struggling people care about is who is running the country. They are not able to aim their sites that high anymore. They have to concentrate on what is going on day to day and where they may end up next month. These same people don't go green, recycle or have insurance either. They are slipping away slowly out of sight..but to where?

LEGENDS IN THEIR OWN MINDS...CONGRESS

America needs first class, full time, committed help 24/7 from the top down. A do nothing Congress is not what we need right now.  Anybody who can bicker at a time when tens of millions of people are out of work, losing homes, minus health care and have no hope...is definitely the problem. Will the next president and the government get to work please?

Wallace:  All I was trying to say... if you will please lower your blood pressure long enough to read this... is that YES... the Democrats are in the "majority" in the Senate... but they still cannot bring anything to a vote.  NOTHING comes to a vote, unless the Republicans relent, and do not filibuster the bill.

So... if the Democrats cannot do anything without the "permission" of Mitch McConnell and the Republicans... I would not say that the Democrats "control" the Senate.  They do not.

Erv:  We already HAVE term limits.  It's called "voting."  If you want to limit someone's term... vote them out.

My suggested candidates... on the Dem side:  Hillary Clinton or maybe the Governor of Maryland, Martin O'Malley.

Or... on the Rep side:  Jon Huntsman or Colin Powell.  Maybe even Jeb Bush.  Maybe if we couldn't find anyone else... Scott Brown, Senator from Mass.

Note:  Neither Jon Huntsman nor Colin Powell would EVER get the Republican nomination.  They are nowhere near crazy or extreme enough to satisfy those in control of the Republican party.

Karen,

Harry Reid controls what comes to the floor of the Senate for debate and votes.  Without Reid's approval a bill will never see the light of day much less a vot.  McConnell is a Republican who is the minority leader. All the crazy Republican Senators can do is work to keep the absolutely INSANE Democrats in check.  Nothing gets done because most of the bills these days are sheer nonsense no matter  which side presented them.

I've totally been feeling lately like I'm not thrilled with either candidate either. Then I feel a little disillusioned, like does it matter much anyway since the president feels more like a figure head than an actual leader. Maybe I'm just in a mood tonight.

Jeanne and Ralph:  Harry Reid has no power to cause a vote on a bill... because if Mitch McConnell says so... the Republicans will filibuster the bill... which will not allow a vote on it.  A filibuster PREVENTS it from ever hitting the floor for a vote... regardless of what Harry Reid says or does.

To stop a filibuster requires 60 votes.  Even if the Democrats get all 53 votes... it is NOT enough to over-ride the Republican filibuster.  So... nothing happens.  This... is called grid-lock.

Richie, It is not about the man it is about the political machine behind the man. Regardless of who is elected President, Congress is the one that needs some backbone and to quit escapingfrom haviing to follow the law and have to live by the laws that they pass for the rest of us. I'm for a totally new Congress and one term limits.

Debbie, I hate to say this... but putting a one-term limit on every member of Congress makes about as much sense as putting a two year limit on every heart surgeon, and then sending them home, and getting another group of rookies fresh out of med school... or worse than that.

Another example.  I don't know what kind of car you own, but what if the folks who put it together were ALL totally new on the job?  Would YOU want your kids driving a car a bunch of newbies put together ?

I totally agree with you about that it is NOT the man, or woman who is the office-holder... but the rest of the political "machine..." and believe me... it IS a machine.

A silly example I use is saying that the President is the guy driving the bus.  But, then you look at all the rest of the folks in the bus... and so many of them are just nutz.  Paid for by so many millionaires like the Koch Brothers and their multi-millions, and Arenson and his multi-millions.

I mentioned that I could vote for Republicans Jon Huntsman or Colin Powell.  But, the problem is that there are a ton of crazy-people on that bus... and I would not want them running the country.

What I am saying is that if Huntsman or Powell were running as Democrats... I would vote for them.  As Republicans... no way would I vote for them.

Hello Gretchen...I think your on to something. Does it matter to us or to people with a high stake in it all?

Debbie...most relevant point as to who is pulling the silk strings...Very easy to overlook. Congress should get paid for results and resolution..not just for having a meeting...Long term tenure  sometimes produces indifference. Amazing how the polls show the majority of Americans dont like Congress just on very little to go on

Gin Gin...It is a subject that has long escaped me because you cannot pin it down. WHY? Because of its very nature or substance. It is not what it appears to be or sounds and often takes quite a bit of time and analysis to fully gauge what is going on...Too much effort for my simple life

Richie,

Wow, I love what you have started here! And the responses you have on this post are amazing.  I do think that the politicians regardless of what party they are in are in need of a remedial course.  They have to read the Constitution and be reminded that the people are the ones they are serving, and not themselves and their interests.  Have a great day.  A

Richie:  You asked what my "sourcing" is?  It is everything.  I simply read about as many sides of an issue as I can find.  Both the sides that I seem to agree with, the sides that just seem wrong, and then everything else in between.  That way... I open myself up to possibly LEARNING something... instead of just simply embroidering another layer of the things I agree with onto what I already believe in.

Ummm... I call it "Fair and Balanced..." to use an over-worked expression.

So many folks... when they sense or hear someone starting up saying things that "contest" what that person believes... they put their fingers in their ears so they do not have to listen to things they "just know" are wrong.

Me... I get all quiet, try to clear my mind, and I listen.  What a concept.  I just never know what I might learn next.  And... if what I hear reinforces my already-held belief... cool... or... if what I hear causes me to reconsider... well... that's cool, too.

Learning is a good thing.

ps... OK... this is about politics.  Wanna get into religion ?  LOL.  I must warn you.  I am a good lil Catholic heretic.  Nice Catholic Girl from Cleveland
