A Good Reason Not To Like Snakes

By
Education & Training with Steve Hoffacker LLC

Many snakes are harmless to people and actually good for the environment. Some snakes are dangerous but generally don't attack unless we are invading on their space - sometimes without realizing it.

One species of snake is extremely dangerous. The burmese python is native to Southeast Asia. It has no predators in the US and can likely eat whatever it wants.

One just caught in the Everglades measured a Florida state-record 17' 7" in length - that's over twice the height of a typical residential ceiling. It was over a foot wide and had 87 eggs on board the size of small mangos.

Nothing to mess with.

Florida doesn't need these creatures - no one in the US does.

Now I KNOW I hate snakes.   Give me a good old fashioned AZ scorpion before you give me a snake!

I have snakes in my yard from my neighbors' pond...YUH!  I ask my yard mowers to just take them away so my dogs don't get them

Steve:

I have never liked snakes.  I should not be this way, but I am.  I have heard about some dangerous snakes being found in the state of Florida, like the Burmese Python...  It happens quite often.  Myrna  :) :) :)

Steve, maybe some people will get the message that the Everglades should not be used as a dumping ground. The fix will take a long time, if we can ever get a handle on it!

Myrna,

The problem is the non-native or exotic variety like this because they have no predators. :)

Wayne,

When you figure that thtis huge snake had 87 eggs - not knowing how many of thiose survive, it's easy to see how this can get out of hand. :)
