Central Pasco and Gulf Railroad at Crews Lake Park in Pasco County
If you are looking for a nice day not far from Spring Hill, Florida, try Crews Lake Park and Central Pasco and Gulf Railroad or for short CP&G.
It's great fun for young and old. The CP&G is a non-profit organization run by volunteers and operates on donations and membership fees. Every 2nd Saturday of the month, they offer rides to the public. You can climb aboard a miniature railroad which has been modeled after the Orange Belt Railroad of the late 1800s and enjoy a ride through the park. There are several locomotives of different types available.
You can also book "Birthday Trains" available every Saturday and Sunday. We had the opportunity to do just that today celebrating the birthday of one of our car club members. We had the use of one of the park's pavilions to enjoy a buffet style picnik and for two hours, a certified engineer and a certified conductor drove the train through the expansive park. What a great idea for a birthday party! Everyone had a blast!
Upcoming special events at CP&G and Crews Lake Park are:
- September 8, 2012: Operation Safety, Crews Lake Park Appreciation Day
- October 13, 2012: Towns of the Orange Belt
- November 10, 2012: Railroad Police
- December 8, 2012: Christmas and the Railroad
To get to CP&G from Spring Hill, Florida, take Mariner Blvd South, cross County Line Road, and continue on Shady Hills Road for about five miles. Turn East onto Lenway Road, then take the first right onto Crews Lake Drive!
